I have to say, I love summer. It’s always been my favorite season, and truly, the best time of year. There’s just something magical about the warm sunshine, the long light-filled days, and that carefree feeling that comes with school being out for summer forever. Some of my favorite childhood memories are of pool days, birthday parties, and staying outside until the fireflies came out. Summer always feels full of possibility, which is probably why it somehow goes by way too fast every single year.
Even though I’m excited for the season to begin, Memorial Day weekend always gives me a little anxiety because I never quite feel ready for summer. So this year I decided to nip that feeling in the bud and make a list of summer resolutions. I know that if I prepare a few things in advance, it will make my summertime easier, breezier and a lot more enjoyable.
The goal is to be ready for anything so I can take advantage of the fun, easygoing days ahead, and allow it to be stress-free.

This weekend I’m planning to start working on these resolutions, and I’m giving myself until the beginning of June to fully accomplish them. I don’t want more stress! Many of them may already be on your mind too, or they may inspire you to come up with your own summer goals.

1. Create My Ready-to-Go Summer Uniform
Memorial Day weekend is always the ideal time for switching out my closet for summer. This year I want an easy-to-wear summer uniform ready to go at all times. Last summer I lived in white or lightweight denim jeans with a T-shirt and blazer, but for summer 2026 I want to lighten things up even more.
My warm-weather uniform will consist of lightweight wide-leg pants, a tank or T-shirt, slide sandals or sneakers, a small crossbody bag and a bomber-style jacket. This outfit formula will work for almost everything on my calendar this summer, including our niece’s softball games, car shows, street fairs, outdoor concerts, parties and barbecues.
By wearing variations of the same outfit in different colors and silhouettes, I can change up my look while still getting dressed quickly and effortlessly.
2. Find the Perfect Pair of Black Slide Sandals
This has been on my summer shopping list for years. I used to own the perfect pair of black slide sandals that were comfortable enough for walking everywhere, from sidewalks to grassy lawns at summer cookouts. And they still looked polished enough to wear with dresses, skirts or relaxed trousers.
I’m looking for a crisscross style with a subtle 1- to 2-inch platform that feels elevated but still easy to wear. These Tod’s slide sandals are exactly the look I’m after, and they’re on sale! I can entertain the splurge since they are 40% less of a splurge.

3. Simplify My Makeup Routine
This summer I’m putting together one small makeup bag that contains only my essentials so it’s always ready for quick mornings and spontaneous weekend getaways. I love eyeshadows but can limit them to a two-color pallet with one light and one dark shade.
I realize I don’t actually need that much:
- sunscreen moisturizer
- concealer
- foundation
- smoky eyeliner
- two neutral eye shadows
- brow pencil
- bronzer/blush
- mascara
- lip liner
- lipstick
- lip gloss
The simpler my makeup routine is, the quicker I can be ready for anything in the summer months.

4. Wear Sunscreen Every Single Day
This is the summer I finally commit to daily sunscreen. I will wear it not only on my face, but also on my hands, neck and chest. I also want to get better about moisturizing the rest of my body and I’ll wear sunglasses consistently too. Protecting our eyes from the sun becomes even more important as we get older.

5. Brighten Up My Home for Summer
I know how much a few small changes can completely refresh a space for summer. Now I just need to actually do it.
Summer is the perfect season to freshen up your home with lighter textures, brighter colors, and accessories that make every space feel airy, relaxed, and inviting. I’m thinking botanical throw pillows in the family room, fresh lilac towels in the bathroom and a bright sunny yellow vase for fresh flowers in the kitchen.
Sometimes a few simple seasonal swaps can make home feel entirely different.
6. Actually Spend More Time Outside
Every year I say I’m going to drink my morning coffee outdoors, but I never quite make it happen. This summer I want to create an outdoor setup that actually invites me outside. A small bistro table and comfortable chairs may be all it takes to turn my patio into a spot I’ll actually use every day.
7. Be Ready for Easy Outdoor Entertaining
One of my goals this summer is to make entertaining easier and more spontaneous. I plan to keep the refrigerator stocked with sparkling soft drinks, cocktails, wine and beer, plus a few easy appetizers like crackers, cheese and olives so I’m always prepared for impromptu get-togethers.
Nothing needs to be fancy, I’ll use outdoor drinkware and plates. I look forward to simple, relaxed summer gatherings. And if people stay for dinner, I can order in or even pick up pizza.

8. Incorporate More No-Bake Recipes
I never feel like cooking as much during the summer, and I don’t think I need to. This year I’m planning to collect and make more easy no-bake recipes all season long.
Here are a few of our favorite Fountain Of 30 recipes to get started, and stay tuned because there will definitely be more to come.
