With the official start of fall arriving this week, it’s time to get serious about updating your fall wardrobe. I know in some parts of the country we are still in a heat wave, but most of us are ready for sweater weather. We’ve rounded up the top fall fashion trends to keep on your radar, but since you can’t wear them all, it helps to start narrowing things down.
I know when I’m searching for new fall pieces, I usually start with pants. I love to look at both jeans and some more dressy options that I can wear when I’m taking a trip to the office or want to look a little more polished. With so many options out there, it can make your head spin. But you can never go wrong with a simple and chic pair of slim straight leg pants paired with a skinny belt.
This classic, polished combination can become your fall wardrobe staple. Besides, it highlights two of our top fall fashion trends. So, let’s look at a few chic duos you can shop now.

Pairing Skinny Pants With Skinny Belts

Old Navy Pixie Pants + Macy’s Skinny Leather Belt
This first combination is a completely obtainable option if you don’t already have anything similar in your closet. The classic Old Navy Pixie Pants pair well with almost anything and come in a huge range of colors; not to mention the price is always affordable. Add this simple skinny pull-through leather belt to complete the look without breaking the bank.

Quince Ponte Straight-Leg Pants + Boden Skinny Belt
For another affordable find, I recommend these Ultra-Stretch Ponte Straight Leg Pants from Quince. These are my personal favorite of everything I spotted while researching this post. I adore the fit and cut of these pants as well as the color options. I would suggest going high/low with these and pair them with a higher end belt like this Iris Skinny Snaffle Trim Belt from Boden. And I absolutely love the cherry red color, which is another trend for fall.

Spanx Ponte Slim Pants + Banana Republic Factory Gold Buckle Belt
If you have a little more to invest, I suggest these Ponte Ankle Slim Pants from Spanx. These have a 4-way stretch, so they hold you where you need and accentuate all your best assets. I would pair these with this Leather Ultra Skinny Belt. The wide, gold buckle adds a unique detail that makes the look a standout.

Ann Taylor Bridgette Pants + J.Crew Italian Leather Belt
One final combination you can try is these Bridgette pants from Ann Taylor paired with this classic skinny Italian leather belt in pecan. I like how this belt color contrast against the wine pants. However, if you prefer a more neutral color, you can get the pants in basic black or navy.
Skinny Pants/Skinny Belts Expert Style Tips
- Look for genuine leather. When looking at new belts, regardless of the style or thickness, I would highly recommend investing in a genuine leather belt. We have all experienced a well-worn synthetic belt that has peeled and cracked. That is not a good look. If you spend the money up front for a nice quality leather, it will last you for years.
- Leg shape matters. When looking for skinny pants, you want to look for slim, straight leg and stay away from tapered. Tapered leg pants had their moment in the spotlight several years back, but now they look dated. If you still have tapered leg pants that you love, keep on loving and wearing them! But if you are looking for some new pieces to update your look, try one of the straight leg options highlighted above.
- Play with the combinations. You don’t have to pair your skinny belts exclusively with your skinny pants. I love a skinny belt with wide leg jeans or a fun statement belt with some skinny pants. I’m giving you ideas and options to try either of these trends, but it’s up to you how you want to wear them to best suit your personal style.
Skinny pants and skinny belts are a timeless duo to add to your wardrobe this season. Whether you go high/low with your pieces or invest in quality staples, this pairing will keep your fall outfits polished and on-trend for fall.
