Yes, you read that correctly, we are taking it to the countryside this month with the super-hot prairie chic trend for the spring. Yes this can be a difficult style to pull off if you are over 35 (frankly, I don’t think I’ll be sporting this trend this year). However, this trend does have a playful and comfortable vibe that can span all ages if you keep it classy. So, don’t go running for the (prairie) hills without taking a minute to consider giving this one a try!
As stated before this was a big trend on the runways during the spring 2017 shows back in September. Many designers incorporated prairie pieces into their collections including Vivienne Tam, Burberry, Ulla Johnson and Banana Republic. The high end versions are far more elevated than those we remember back in the 1960s, 70s and again in the 90s. Cheap gauzy cottons that were used in these older versions have been replaced with luxe fabrics, rich embroideries and embellishments. Deep floral prints, ruffles and lace create an added depth that translates well for the over 35 woman.
Like I said, this is a playful and fun trend which plays up a woman’s feminine style. Don’t be afraid of the ultra girly details. Dive in head first with a flowing maxi dress like this ZAC Zac Posen Tiered Gown, or keep it simple and subtle with this Madewell Eyelet Blouse paired with your favorite jeans, slacks or midi length skirt. With all of the newness in spring fashion that is making its way into stores and our closets, this is definitely one that will take you out of your fashion comfort zone. But what better time than now to give it a try?
