The peplum trend is back in style (and one of our favorites) for Fall 2023. Not only is this wardrobe update a perfect way to transition from summer to fall, but you can wear these peplums all year long. This time around you will see a wide variety of peplums from full and gathered to sleeker and more refined. We like this season’s sleek peplum tops that skim gracefully over the hips yet they don’t add too much volume. This nipped-at-the-waist look is very flattering for most figures and is a welcome update to the many oversized looks we have been seeing in recent collections.
How to Style A Peplum Top or Jacket
1. Peplums with Pants: Wear a peplum over slimmer fitting pants including slim cuts, straight leg, and flare. With a peplum top you will want to avoid pleated pants, belt loops or pants with built-in ties, belts and sashes. Wear pants with a flat waistline.
2. Peplums with Jeans: A peplum will work over most jeans styles that are cut slimmer around the waist. Medium and high waisted work best. Try skinny jeans, straight leg or flares, but avoid denim jeans that are too slouchy, such as oversized or some boyfriend styles that have a low crotch or too much volume.

3. Peplums with Skirts: Pencil, A-line or bias-cut skirts give you the best silhouette with peplums. Avoid gathered skirts and skirts with too much volume. Play around with skirts, even a pleated one can work, as long as it is more fitted around the waist and hips.
4. Coats Over Peplum Tops: There is one caveat about this trend, as you may recall from the past. Peplums don’t always look right under blazers and short jackets, but you will have to try them on to see. Many of the softer peplum tops will work under slightly oversized blazers. A safe way to go is with a car coat, midi or duster over your peplum top.

No designer brand got into this trend for Fall 2023 better than Alexander McQueen! This Alexander McQueen Peplum Lambskin Leather Biker Jacket for $7,500 makes such a cool statement. The soft leather and zipper trim hem makes it a work of art. This is definitely one piece that says it all, and it may be all you will wear for several years with its price tag! But you can get a somewhat similar silhouette with this Guess Faux Leather Peplum Moto Jacket that is now only $89.97 at Nordstom Rack.
Floral Peplum Top
This beautiful Dries Van Noten Coromos Mixed Floral Print Silk Peplum Top is now on sale for $368. It is worth the price because you can wear it multiple ways and all year long. But if you want to save a ton of money you can get this CiCiBird Store Button Down Casual Peplum, in a not-bad-but-much-less-gorgeous black floral print for only $27 on Amazon.
White Button-Up Peplum Shirt
We adore white button-up shirts and one that you can wear tunic style will make a great addition to your wardrobe. This perfectly constructed Givenchy Cotton Button-Up Peplum Blouse is $1,270. It is so amazing from all sides and has unique zippered cuffs. However, you can opt for this Merlette Orient Smocked Peplum Shirt that is now on sale for $162 (it was $360). I know it is not exactly inexpensive, but it you can get excellent quality and detail for a whole lot less.
Denim Jacket Peplum Trend
If you are getting tired of oversized or cropped denim jackets, the peplum denim jacket is here! This softly shaped Ulla Johnson Odette Cinched-Waist Denim Jacket is $590 and is an easy way to add a lot of style to your wardrobe. Or you can get this cute Wit & Wisdom Peplum Denim Jacket for one sixth of the price at $98.
Black Short Sleeve Peplum Top
