The 97th Academy Awards brought Hollywood’s biggest names to the red carpet, but the Oscars 2025 fashion leaned more toward subtle elegance than bold statements.
In other words, I was underwhelmed.
Even Demi Moore, who has consistently proven to be the most stylish silhouette on the red carpet this season wore a look that was – well, rather predictable. Maybe the stars toned it down because of the devastation of the LA fires? Who knows?

Oscars 2025 Fashion On The Red Carpet
Jewel tones and bold hues were replaced with silver sequins and washed out tones, which I personally didn’t care for – but the fashionistas made it work. And then there was the strange juxtaposition of Hollywood glamour against sculpted structures. And the velvet trend – where did that come from?
Here’s what I did like on the red carpet at the 97th Academy Awards
Oscars 2025 Fashion Standouts

You may not know this actress yet, but you should pay attention to her fashion. Vic Carmen Sonne, the Danish actress who’s film The Girl with the Needle, wore a color you don’t typically see on the red carpet and she made it look absolutely breathtaking. Everything about this look, the color, the way the gown drapes over her petite frame, and even its modest appeal speaks volumes to me.

In a look very aptly proclaimed “Elphaba-core” by Cosmopolitan magazine, Cynthia Erivo stuns in a velvet green Louis Vuitton masterpiece that only she could pull off. Whoopi Goldberg tried, but she doesn’t look quite the same. (See below.)

This actress always looks incredible!!

I don’t know what it is about this dress, but the way it drapes on the British singer-songwriter is utterly divine. And we all know Vivienne Westwood was always a master of draping (and her legacy continues.)

In a departure from the ball gown and metallic looks of the night, I still think this Ashi Studio column gown is stunning.
Some others…
So I put these in their own category because they weren’t quite as good as the standouts but they did make some kind of statement. These are the ones that represent the underwhelm that Oscars were to me this year. I just wanted a little bit extra…

The rumor is that Gal Gadot doesn’t dress as well as she used to since she stopped working with her stylist Elizabeth Stewart.

I absolutely adore this silhouette. But the animal print kills it for me…

Why do I feel like this is too matronly for the young actress? Also, she looks like she’s going to her own wedding.

I actually really love the exaggerated bottom – but if only she would stop wearing strange busts and washed-out tones.

Mikey Madison is so gorgeous and I really wanted to see a better look on her.

She’s worn better looks to the Oscars.

I think this would have worked more if it had been tailored better and in a different color.

There’s something I absolutely love about this dress but it looks like its hanging off her.
Silver Metallic Mavens
Here’s where the silver and gold metallics come in. I’m so tired of it, but it’s always there. I certainly didn’t expect Demi to wear it. Yes, it’s here every awards show but it feels somewhat extra this year.

Worst Dressed at the Oscars 2025
Before I dive in, I have to say something. These aren’t the worst Oscars looks I’ve ever seen in my life and I thought twice before putting some of them into this category. The Oscars in general were somewhat underwhelming for me. But alas, when you have divine looks from Demi Moore, and Michelle Yeoh, someone has to eventually go here.

I’m so happy she won, but I do not like this look at all. Oh, and I predicted it.

Not sure what’s going on here. There’s print. There’s 3D. It’s all a little too much.

I don’t know. I get it. And I don’t get it. If you know Whoopi’s style, then you know this is something she would wear. To each his own. But I just don’t like it on her at all.
Do you agree with my statements? Or were you pleased with the Oscar looks this year?
