Kelly Clarkson, the first-ever winner of the American Idol reality singing competition, who turned 37 years old last month, is just about everywhere this year, from the Billboard Music Awards to The Voice. She’s also set to premiere a new talk show in September. If you’ve been following Kelly Clarkson’s style evolution as I have, you will notice it has only become better and better.
Kelly Clarkson Goes Bold With Style
What I love most about Kelly’s style is, particularly in the past couple of years, she’s begun to make a statement with bold colors, prints and metallics on fitted looks, but she does not have a stick figure frame like so many celebrities. She shows us how all women can be bold when it comes to style and fashion.
This girl is real, y’all. She has four kids (two of her own and she’s also a stepmom). And yet, she has time to hold down at least two jobs (and look stunning while doing it.)

Bold Floral Dress
Some might say Kelly Clarkson’s ASOS Reclaimed Vintage Inspired Shift Dress in Floral, with Gucci Leather Mid-heel T-strap Sandals worn to the Jimmy Fallon show was a bit much. They probably wouldn’t be wrong, but sometimes busy details work for a bold look. In this case, there’s lots going on but Kelly’s stylist Candice Lambert McAndrews, who picked this look, tied it all together with the Gucci Stripe belt, the tie neck and the black tights. It’s demure but funky and her stockings give it a bit of an edge you don’t usually see on the red carpet. Most girls are saying “no” to opaque legwear under a dress in favor of showing off toned legs. There’s something to be said for glamming up an already bold look with the perfect pair of tights. And while I’m not completely sure the booties and belt work, I love the thought that went into it.
Black and White Polka-Dot
Reporters have gone as far as to call Clarkson’s style evolution “drastic” and says the singer is “pushing the fashion envelope” by wearing styles from luxury name brands like Valentino, Christian Siriano, Dolce & Gabbana and more. In another major fashion getup, she chooses to let Carolina Herrera‘s striking but ladylike black and white polka-dot midi dress do the talking. The whimsical dress with puff sleeves shows off her curves. Her stylist, who was obsessed with those sleeves,” according to People.com, has called this one her favorite look ever worn by the star.
Lambert’s personal favorite look has been the polka dot Carolina Herrera number Clarkson wore with pouffy sequin sleeves. “Ugh, she looked so good and that dress was everything,” says Lambert. “I was obsessed with those sleeves – lived for them.”
Black Sequined Gown Billboard Music Awards
Ahh, this is the look everyone remembers on Kelly from this year’s Billboard Music Awards. It wasn’t her only look that night, but it was certainly one of her most standout ones. Who could have thought a high-neck covered up sequined dress with just a little leg showing could be so sexy? And of course, those strappy Christian Louboutin rainbow sandals pulled the entire look together and still made it pop.
High Neck Top, Leather Skirt
Back in 2018, Kelly Clarkson had her share of high neck tops, including this star print one from a photocall for the Billboard Music Awards that year. What’s great about this outfit is the high waisted leather pencil skirt and cinching the waist. This is a great way to elongate her frame, without shying away from her notable feminine curves. This is probably the kind of look Kelly does best, no matter what she’s wearing.
