When we were at New York Fashion Week at least 8 seasons ago we reported we saw at a jumpsuit in almost every collection. I’m happy to say the jumpsuit trend is still going strong and is here to stay. There’s even a category on most shopping sites exclusively for jumpsuits. They’ve become a fashion staple, and for good reason. Jumpsuits give you a sleek, modern and pulled-together look that can be worn for special occasions, in place of a cocktail dress or even an evening gown in some cases. The wonderful thing about them is they can both cover you up, and expose you, in all the right places based on your body type. You can cover your legs or arms and feet, what a joy! Or maybe you want to hide your midsection and show off your ankles or shoulders.
Thankfully there are a wide variety of styles at all price points out there so there’s a jumpsuit (or two) just for you. If you are over 40, you probably should avoid cut outs, spaghetti straps, crisscrosses, ruffles, midriff-baring, side-baring and backless numbers. I also recommend to avoid anything on a jumpsuit that resembles a carpenter (yes, overall styles).
When styling a jumpsuit you may want to add a belt for a more flattering fit. Belts are beautiful things because they can either hide flaws around your midsection or accentuate your waistline. Stick to a dark color when purchasing a jumpsuit. Go with black and you can easily dress your jumpsuit up or down.
Here are some perfectly appropriate jumpsuits for women of all ages. In other words, if you get one of these, your daughter will probably want to borrow it.
