There’s always been something particularly glamorous about the idea of French lingerie. Whether it is the high quality construction of classic French lingerie brands or the sheer sex appeal of their designs (or a combination of both), something French and luxurious is always a treat to have in your lingerie drawer. Particularly once you are over 40, you know what styles you personally love (and if your partner likes them too, that’s just a bonus) and what looks good on you.
French Lingerie For Women Over 40
A Classic French Slip
Whether you wear it under a dress or just around your house, a beautiful silk slip that makes you feel like a movie star is something every woman should have. Something like this Fleur du Mal silk slip fits the bill, but really anything that makes you feel gorgeous, glamorous and sexy is a good idea.
A Stunning French Camisole
Whether you let it show under a blazer or keep it a secret, a beautiful lacy camisole is undeniably feminine and a worthwhile splurge. Cheap lace can look trashy, but high end lacy pieces made in France look as luxurious as they feel like this black lace Kiki de Montparnasse camisole. Or go for a one piece like this Floria Nikrooz bodysuit.

A Perfect Body Shaper
Body shapers (or shapewear) doesn’t have to be utilitarian or something you need to hide. This body shaper by Simone Perele is worthy of being seen and it’ll help smooth everything out under a fitted dress or top – which is an all around win. Or keep things simple with a not-so-basic black bodysuit by Chantelle.
A Robe That Feels Ultra Luxe
Having a beautiful French robe that you can lounge in or throw on every morning might be one of the greatest self-care luxuries we can think of, and something like this Fleur du Mal snow leopard print robe is just about perfect. Or perhaps this Eres gold satin robe would do the trick. Regardless of the style you chose, it should be something in a color or print that you love and that makes you smile every time you put it on.
A French Lingerie Set That Flatters
We don’t mean you should get a practical bra and panty set, although you certainly should have that as well. We mean a French lingerie set that makes you feel unapologetically glamorous and sexy. Virtually anything by Agent Provocateur fits the bill, especially the ballet pink and black Joan bra and panty set. Aubade also makes amazing pieces, and this embroidered red set is definitely worthy of a splurge for a special occasion, or just because it’s Tuesday.
A Racerback Bra That Doesn’t Look Like A Sports Bra
Sports bras definitely have their place, but they are not usually the prettiest pieces in your lingerie drawer. However, this indigo lace Chantelle racerback bra is not only practical, but absolutley gorgeous as well. We’re also fans of deep blue instead of black for a twist on the traditional lacy lingerie look. It’s an unexpected color that works on nearly every skin tone.
So once you hit 40 (or earlier) you should be buying the lingerie you want…which we think includes spending more on some really special pieces. Plus there is something luxurious about that “made in France” label. What incredible French lingerie would you buy if you had an unlimited budget?

Glad you like them. Isn’t that robe awesome?
I’m not much of a lingerie wearer, but I do love that Leopard Print robe!
I hear you. I wasn’t either but has stepped up my game. Robes are always a good choice!
