Designer Rouland Mouret, the dashing young French designer whose made a name for himself creating showstopping gowns for red carpet sirens, has found a new calling. Mouret has been picked to head up the creative team for 30-year-old French footwear label Robert Clergerie. With a solid celeb following of former clients including Cameron Diaz, Uma Thurman and Scarlett Johansson, Mouret will hopefully carry his camp into the footwear market, where he will begin lending his design prowess for the autumn/winter 2012 collection.
Mouret has already been involved in several Robert Clergerie campaigns, in an attempt to widen the influence of the classic shoe company, and feels honored to fill this new role. “To be the creative director of Robert Clergerie, is an incredible opportunity” the French fashion designer told the Telegraph. “For so many people it’s such an important brand and held in the highest affection. This is a chance for me to work with a master on the art and craft of shoe design and to be part of the special relationship that women have with their shoes”.
Mouret also starts his term at Robert Clergerie with the blessing of Clergerie himself, original founder of the footwear label some 30 years ago. “I am delighted to see Roland Mouret at the head of the creation of the maison I created. It is a great symbol to see such perspectives, with a talent who already knows and loves our company.” Good luck in to Rouland Mouret in his new big shoes to fill.
