It’s obvious celebrities know how to dress. But when it comes to weddings, they seem to put out all the stops—coming up with gowns from their favorite designers that are big and bold or sleek and to their taste. Straight off the heels of mega-watt royal weddings like Kate Middleton to Prince William and Charlene Wittstock to Prince Albert and right onto the summer wedding season (and Kim Kardashian’s upcoming nuptials), it had to be done—the Second City Style celebrity wedding dress article! These are my picks for the top 4 picks for best celebrity wedding dresses of 2011.
Kate Moss
Wedding Dress: Vintage-Inspired
No one was more surprised than the writers at Second City Style when we learned Kate Moss was wearing a John Galliano dress for her wedding. This begged the following question. Did she chose to go against the grain on purpose? Did she want to be controversial? Or was this designer chosen before his scandal and she couldn’t get out of it? Did she want to get out of it? While all worthwhile thoughts, in the end, it didn’t matter. John Galliano was Kate’s friend and his dress for Kate touched upon all the things she loved about fashion—the artistry and the vintage, coupled with the easy comfort, like what she wanted when she created her pieces for Topshop. It’s also sexy but understated—both things that Kate is known for. The non see through bodice blends into a translucent skirt. It has some rhinestones but nothing over the top. It’s not an iconic gown and it won’t be remembered, but it’s perfect for the girl who wants to be pretty, fashionable and retro, but comfortable. What it does do is reflect Kate Moss’s personal style perfectly. And perhaps that is something we’d all like to emulate.
Sara Rue
Dress: Modern Twist on Traditional
The thing about Sarah Rue’s dress is that it’s traditional strapless, with a twist. The Dahlia by Amsale silk taffeta ball gown has a sweetheart bodice and a ball gown skirt made of 45 yards of silk taffeta. What makes it stand out as a play on the traditional is the ruching on the sweetheart bodice and the floral embroidery and the print on the skirt. The dress is also café colored, according to Amsale, not white, which sets it off against so many other “traditional” ones. The dress seemed made for Sarah and it’s perfect for someone who wants to feel like a princess, but with a playful side, of course. Sara Rue married Kevin Price.

Dress: Short
Are you really looking for something unique and non-traditional? Well then you better take a look at the next two choices, because they are very out-of-the-box. Natasha Henstridge married Darius Campbell in a secret wedding that it seemed to happen so quickly, so it’s as if she didn’t have time to pick a wedding dress! She wore a chiffon asymmetrical minidress with a gold belt. While beautiful on her, it’s hardly the traditional ball gown. However, it might just be perfect for a quickie wedding or one where the bride doesn’t want to get all dolled up but still wants to feel sweet and beautiful.
LeAnn Rimes
Wedding Dress: Sparkly
I could have started talking about Reese Witherspoon’s unique pink Monique Lhuillier dress for her wedding to Jim Toth or America Ferrera’s traditional Amsale dress for her wedding. I could have mentioned Lily Aldridge’s pretty strapless or Shania Twain’s beautiful white. So why did I choose to go with LeAnn Rimes, a girl who wore a gold sparkly dress by Reem Acra. First, because Reem Acra is one of the best wedding dress designers on the market today and knows how to conform to a woman’s body while still making the dress beautiful, but unique. She did so in LeAnn’s case. As we all know, LeAnn is not a role model, she and her now-husband Eddie Cibrian both had affairs with each other while they were married to spouses they weren’t happy with. So people would have gasped if LeAnn had worn a traditional ball gown to her nuptials with Eddie, because as we all know, she ain’t no innocent! The two got ready together on their wedding day and LeAnn wore a sparkly handmade Reem Acra number, with, of course, a daring slit. Perhaps we may not agree with the way LeAnn and Eddie got together, but we do think this is a perfect dress for someone who wants to buck tradition and go their own route.
