There no denying there is a ton of debate today about the control we actually have over the aging process … and it can be really confusing. Therefore, I thought de-aging our skin internally and externally was a topic we needed to discuss on my podcast Beauty is a Bitch with Jan Marini.
Guest Jan Marini, founder of Jan Marini Skin Research, Inc. has been in the professional skincare market for over 40 years. Not only is she one of the most respected names in professional skin care, she has formed associations with some of the world’s leading physicians and research scientists to develop cutting edge solutions to today’s most common skin concerns.

Be sure to listen to my S5 E12 Beauty is a Bitch Podcast “What We Can Do To De-Age Internally and Externally With Jan Marini.” The discussion gets really interesting when we talk about the future of aging because it’s moving at such a rapid pace. Jan is of the belief that aging is a disease, but it’s such a huge and complex subject. She also thinks we are a ways off from being able to completely reverse aging, although she knows one researcher who has patented something promising that is maybe 10 years off from being available.
So there is a possibility we will be able to increase longevity through a pill but until then there is much we can do today. When it comes to aging, it’s really about health span more than it is about life span. Let’s face it, if you are lucky enough to live to be really old, you want to do so vibrantly.
Our Skin and Aging
Aging is really an inflammatory disease. We are literally rusting to death. Inflammation contributes to heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, tissue degeneration and repair, cancer rates rise even our aging skin (UV radiation). Then we have compromised instructions coming from our DNA which hurts our body’s ability to repair itself which starts to decline slowly when we are in our 20’s and picks up speed as we get older.
De-aging Our Skin
While we can’t reboot those instructions, we can reverse them through supplementation, nutrition and skincare. Then there is the gradual shutdown of our aging genes called sirtuins. Sirtuins are a type of protein involved in regulating cellular processes including the aging and death of cells and their resistance to stress. We have about two dozen sirtuins and they play a major role in enabling our body to repair, to rebuild and to remain healthy and energetic. How to we turn them back on? Well you need to listen to this really fascinating episode.
What We Discuss In The Podcast
- Up to 80% of our aging health is up to us. Only about 20% is genetics.
- The general position today among cutting edge researchers regarding aging both internally and externally.
- How we actually age now.
- If we can control aging now or if we need to wait for some drug far off into the future.
- What we can do today to limit or reduce the aging process.
- How diet affects our aging (does intermittent fasting help with the aging process?).
- How supplementation can help with aging.
- Anti-aging drugs available now.
- How we can “de-age” our skin now.

I think it’s smart to teach young people how to care for their skins starting when young.
