Friends and fans of photographer Steve Starr gathered at 50 E Erie in Chicago last night for an event he was planning until his unexpected death exactly a month ago. Steve was planning a 45th anniversary event: THE FACE OF NEWS featuring his photos of journalists, broadcasters, reporters, columnists and publishers. There were some of these photos lining the walls, but the focus of the event was on Steve Starr and his contributions as a photographer and friend to so many of us. The event was joyful and there was everything from food stations from the best restaurants in Chicago, mixed cocktails and desserts to intermittant entertainment including musicians, singers and dancers.
Steve’s family members told us they were thankful for the turnout and the support of so many people. The highlight of the evening was a video with photos from Steve’s life. He was certainly a great subject of photography himself! It was hard to believe he was not there, but his presence and everyone’s fond memories were everywhere in the room.
