How The Celebrities Wear Bold Off-The-Shoulder Necklines

Want to show some skin without going over the top or revealing too much cleavage? Try one of the sexy off-the-shoulder looks below. It’s a chance to take on a trend, look gorgeous and keep it sexy.

The great thing about this skin-baring look is that it can be worn throughout the year. But its more than just naked shoulders. What has done it for me is the way that designers are taking risks with the entire decolletage – sharp cuts, textured ruffles, and more play with fabrics and bold colors. Here’s how the celebrities wear bold off-the-shoulder necklines.

Naomie Harris – Sharp Off-The-Shoulder Look

This Assi & Osta dress worn by Naomie Harris is up there with one of my favorite dresses of all time. Something about the color, the silhouette, the sharpness of the asymmetrical slit and especially the way the Bardot neckline plays up her shoulders. The cut-out at the top is also unique, but it just adds to the overall incredible look. For me, Naomie Harris is up there in the style department and she knows how to wear the off-the-shoulder trend.

Zooey Deutch – Jewel Tone Off-The-Shoulder Maxi

I love the ruffles on this Giambattista Valli number, but it’s the perfect jewel tone that does it for me. This isn’t the first time Zoey Deutch has worn an off-the-shoulder gown (remember the Tribeca Film Festival?) But every time she does she styles it perfectly. And it isn’t even too matchy-matchy. Slicked back hair, bold red lip, and pumps that kill. Perfect subdued Tiffany & Co. necklace, that isn’t too loud and yet, still makes a statement. This is a beauty.

Celebrities in off-the-Shoulder Necklines: Elizabeth Olsen – Ruffles

Elizabeth Olsen has been playing with new looks that I both love and hate. Sometimes she looks more refined and then sometimes it’s a little too much blue. In the case of this Oscar de la Renta jumpsuit – once again, I like it and I don’t. I like the way the puffed-up ruffles on the neckline oomph up the outfit. At the same time, it’s a little too much for such a streamlined look. It almost feels like it’s hanging over her. But in some ways it’s simple, it’s classic, it’s safe.
I know that sounds like such a contradiction but that’s exactly what this is. It also seems very subdued for Oscar de la Renta, but maybe that’s because I’m used to seeing the gowns. This almost feels like it should have been the top of a gown. What do you think?

Adria Arjona – Ruched Off-The-Shoulder Dress

Besides the fact that it does look a wee bit like the top is going to fall down, overall I like the Tove Riley Ruched Stretch-Jersey Midi Dress on Adria Arjona. It’s classy and for the most part, she wears it well. This is one of those dresses that looks better on the person wearing it than it does on the hanger. And the gathering along the scooped neckline creates a nice billowy texture that isn’t overboard. I’m not sure just anyone could pull it off, but Arjona did a good job. Perhaps next time a better necklace.

Karlie Kloss – Feathers

Yes, even with the unique overabundance of feathers, this look on Karlie Kloss can pass for off-the-shoulder. But what I really want to know is what do you think of all the extra? Here are a few things I noticed. 1. Those mesh pumps are everything. (But is it really a good thing that I notice the pumps more than I notice the dress?) 2. The dress looks better from the back. It just does. Too many feathers in the front. Too much on the shoulders, too. In this case, less is more when it comes to off-the-shoulder.
