How to Wear The Bold Black and White Trend for Women Over 50

Black and white is back for fall! Who doesn’t love it? I know I do. And apparently many of the top designers did this season too. They showcased black and white fashion in bold and spectacular ways on the runways for fall 2023. Here’s how to wear the black and white trend for women over 50 this fall.

Bold Black And White Trend On The Runways

Black and white ruled the runways from the amazing oversized black and white striped gown at Carolina Herrera, to the white satin trim on a black tuxedo look at Balmain, to the bold woven floral on check patterns on a suit at Chanel.

Bold Black And White Prints and Patterns

Black and white prints in stripes, checks, houndstooth, plaids, dots, geometrics, abstracts and florals have always been among my favorites. It can be bold, sophisticated, mod or retro (think 60s houndstooth). And no matter what black and white always looks strong, especially with this season’s large prints. If large prints are not your thing, try black and white color blocking. Or simply wear a top, dress or jacket with a trim or boarder of white on black, or black on white, to get the look.

You may already own something in black and white that you can revive this season, or you may want to add a fresh piece to your fall and winter wardrobe.

How to Wear Black and White for Fall 2023

1. Sure, you can always wear a black and white blazer or bold stripe sweater with your blue jeans or with another colored skirt or pants for that matter. But to get this season’s look, wear it only with black or white. The chic way to wear the trend is all black and white.
2. Go bold and graphic with oversized stripes and patterns, or wear black with white in a more subtle but still striking way with white piping, pearl trims, or white collars or cuffs.
3. As always, you can simply wear an accessory in black and white to get on board with the trend. Try a bold houndstooth check handbag, a dot print scarf, fun zebra print shoes or a pair of two-tone loafers in black and white to wear with all black clothing.

Top off an all black ensemble with a black and white check, plaid or houndstooth jacket.

A black and white print dress in a large floral print, bold stripe, colorblocked or graphic print is ideal for fall 2023. Or look for black dresses trimmed with white collars and cuffs for an elegant take on the trend.

Loafers are still all the rage for fall and this year you will have your choice of a variety of black and white print fabric, pearl embellished, and color blocked shoes. Wear them with an all black outfit and you’ll be right on trend.

Grab a black and white oversized print handbag! Or slip a a graphic print scarf around your neck for an easy way to wear the trend.
