If the Oscars are a lesson in haute couture and old Hollywood royalty (with a bit of risk-taking thrown in), then the 27th Screen Actors Guild Awards this year were all about experimentation and crazy designs. The fashion was filled with bright colors, bold prints, and outfits that the celebrity fashionistas wouldn’t wear anywhere else. It wasn’t like the Grammys or the MTV Awards – there wasn’t a ton of glitter and sparkle. But there were so many dressed up and dressed down celebs in unique ensembles that I’m almost not sure where to begin my review of the SAG Awards 2021 fashion.
SAG Awards 2021 Fashion
As Vogue magazine put it, “This year the ceremony was virtual, but the high drama vibe remained, with stars nodding to classic cinema with their red carpet outfits, test driving new collections, and experimenting with outré looks from the comfort of their backyards.”
I’m not sure I agree with the nods to classic cinema, so much as I do with the experimenting with outré looks!

Let’s begin, shall we?
We all know Nicole Kidman takes risks on the red carpet, but she likes to look feminine and glamorous doing it. This for me is not a typical Nicole Kidman look but perhaps that’s because there is no typical Nicole Kidman look. As always, she keeps up the structured, streamlined silhouette but adds surprises like sequins and multicolor florals with this Giorgio Armani gown. Would she wear this look to the Oscars? It’s hard to say. Nevertheless, it looked good.
I’m not sure how I feel about this Givenchy look on British actress Vanessa Kirby. Is she going to sing at a nightclub?
Kerry Washington looking divine as always. Not sure how I feel about the Etro couture gown a swim suit, but hey – these are pandemic times and since there is no real red carpet, you gotta make a statement another way.
Many sang the praises of Viola Davis in this Louis Vuitton gown but I absolutely hate the color. Still, I’m not sure this actress would wear it anywhere else.
Here’s the thing about Cate Blanchett. She’s known for her colors, her risk-taking looks, like FASHION. So yes, we all love a good androgynous menswear look from Givenchy but come on, really? You couldn’t do better than that Cate? You’re probably the only one who could have made experimentation look good.
No, this look is not as crazy as some of the others and yes, it actually looks stunning. I think this is probably the best Mindy Kaling has ever looked in this blue Alex Perry gown. Really. I’m just not sure why she chose the SAGs as the awards show to do it.
Lingerie anyone?
What’s with all the washed out tones?
Guess the jewel tones have it. Check out her admirer.
Think Pink
One surprising (or striking) trend was all the pink that was on the (virtual) red carpet.
Worst SAG Awards 2021 Fashion
I have to say that this is actually a great outfit…just not for the Screen Actors Guild Awards. It’s way too casual.
Save the disco look for the after party, not the awards show. This is very sparkly, very pretty, and very not right for the SAGs.
No idea what this is about. Isn’t this the same girl who wore a striking blush-colored J. Mendel (with deep V-neck) to last year’s SAG Awards?

Wow – not impressed with any of these outfits…
Fashion left me behind years ago if this year’s collection is any indicator! Sooo not impressed… 😉
