It’s time for awards season and this time…it’s in person! The 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards – better known as the SAGs – kicked off a busy few months for our film and television actors who are ready to get back on the red carpet. (Last year’s SAGs were pre-taped.) But wait, there’s more. The showstopping looks on the SAG Awards 2022 red carpet were certainly there, but they were scattered in with all black.
I’m not sure why the celeb fashionistas decided their grand return to the red carpet should be in a somewhat somber color, but that’s exactly what happened. Although you can argue that black is also elegant and refined and many of the fashionistas added stylish touches like embellishment, ruffles, jewels and a touch of skin.
Let’s take a look at some of the black choices that floored us.

SAG Awards 2022 Red Carpet
I know some may be wondering why I’m starting with 29-year old Selena but I thought this was a very grown up choice for the almost thirty-something and I mean that in the nicest way possible. It’s elegant with a touch of something special. I love those oversize sleeves. And of course, the velvety fabric is breathtaking. Well done.
A lot of celebs decided to go for the off-the-shoulder looks and I’m on board. I love when there’s a hint of skin without being over-the-top raunchy. Rosario Dawson does a great job here and I’m a fan. Also Oscar de la Renta! (When I first posted this after Selena I had no idea!)
Just a wee bit low cut for my taste but Cate Blanchett never lets the clothes wear her. She looks stunning in everything!
This electric black Fendi number on Naomi Watts is simple and sexy. The way the sleeves are framed is not something I’ve seen before, but it’s a trend at this year’s SAGs (Faith Hill wore something similar.) I think Naomi Watts is great at risk-taking without going overboard.
It’s not a bad look but was kind of expecting more from Nicole Kidman
Silver Standouts
Silver and white looks were all the rage at the SAG Awards this year (and sometimes they were mixed together.) Case in point…
Not the best look I’ve ever seen from her but she certainly cuts a stunning silhouette.
Pantsuits are still not something I’m used to seeing at awards shows – granted, maybe there should be more of them? If the fashionistas wearing them look as stunning as Jessica Chastain in Dior then I say we need more!
I’m not a fan of Carolina Herrera lately. I find she opts to take more risks and cares less about femininity and more about statement. Take this tin-foil topper worn by Sandra Oh. Well it certainly hits the silver metallic trend but is that a good thing? She looks the wrapper you would use to hold a cupcake.
I was waiting for an Atelier Versace moment and I think this is it.
Bold Color
As usual, Kerry Washington turns heads in stunning Celia Kritharioti. The color is just so gorgeous on her.
Not a fan of the long nails, but I get it. Gorgeous!
In my opinion, this is unconventional for an awards show. And also breathtaking.
Jada says she took this gown out of her own closet. She also color coordinated with husband Will Smith and added a nice lace-like collar from Cartier. I like it!
Squid Games definitely won big at the SAG Awards this year, sweeping up Best Male Actor and Best Female Actor in a Drama Series as well as Best Ensemble. Kim Joo-ryeong didn’t win any awards but she certainly looked the part. I love the tones of this colorful ombre Zimmermann gown.
Let’s see what’s in store for the rest of awards season.

I still find the more traditional couture the best. Nicole Kidman and Jessica Chastain look fantastic.
I agree. They looked fantastic.
Kerry Washington always looks beautiful but my favorite is Jessica Chastain’s outfit.
Wasn’t it gorgeous? She was one of my favorites too.
This is all lovely (I realize there are hits and misses, but in general very fun).
