How To Style A White Shirtdress Outfit for Women Over 50 High Low

Almost as important as that little black dress in your wardrobe is owning a little white dress. And one of the most versatile styles for spring and summer is the white shirtdress. It’s the dress version of our favorite wardrobe essential, the white button down shirt. It creates a blank canvas for accessories while it keeps you crisp and cool in the warmer months of the year. I put together this accessory-loaded white shirtdress outfit for women over 50 and styled it high low.

What is High Low Styling?

You can wear this outfit with all high-end (and high-priced) designer fashion, or get a similar look with low-priced pieces. Or you can also mix up the high and low fashion for what is known as high low styling. I’m showing you the high-end version of  this outfit on the left and the low-priced version on the right. This is a good way to pick and choose which pieces you like best from both sides. I recommend mixing in at least one high-end piece, and your entire outfit will be elevated.

Why You Need a White Shirtdress

Here are good reasons to add a white shirt dress to your wardrobe for spring and summer.

1. A white shirtdress is flattering! A shirt collar is universally flattering on most women and can be adjusted to have a more open V with the buttons. It also has long sleeves (that women over 50 love) and the cotton fabric is not clingy. When belted, it softly defines your waistline and figure.

2. It’s versatile. A white shirtdress can be worn multiple ways. You can choose to cinch it with a variety of belts, wear it with a colorful scarf, or you can wear it open over a t-shirt and jeans or a slim t-shirt dress, like a jacket. It is also a wonderful vacation piece because it can be worn as a chic swimsuit cover-up and you can dress it up or down. Wear a white shirtdress casually with flat sandals or dress it up with metallic high heel mules and shiny gold or even sparkly crystal jewelry.

3. It’s cool and comfortable. The lightweight woven fabric (usually in a cotton or cotton blend) is comfortable in the warm weather months. The long sleeves cover you from sun exposure and the loose fit is easy to wear. And since it is a dress, it’s a one and done fashion item! Just slip one on with a pair of shoes or sandals and you are ready for your day.

This belt is one to collect and wear all year round as well as for years to come. But if you want a more affordable option, this Ann Taylor Woven Straw Trouser Belt will do the trick for $74.50.

The Flat Black Slingback Sandals

These Marni Crisscross Slingback Flat Sandals for $690 are worth every penny because you can also wear them with pants, jeans, skirts, shorts and other dresses all summer long.
