Vintage: We Are So Not Over The Oversized Sweater!

Hey, remember the 90s? Yes there are a few fashion trends that popped up that we’d all like to forget, but a few stood the test of time and even though they faded out for a bit they came back strong. The oversized sweater is one look that has made its way back into our closets. It serves a dual purpose providing both style and warmth in the cooler months and there are oh-so-many styles, colors and fabrics. I know it doesn’t provide the feminine and sexy silhouette that we love to show off, but sometimes it’s just nice to get a little cozy.
I’m not so sure about the major story behind the oversized sweater and why it became so popular, but it’s pretty safe to assume that pop culture of the time was a major influence. Who wasn’t dying to have a “Cosby sweater”? Also, look at some major 90s-centric shows where fashion played a major role like Blossom, Clarissa Explains It All and Saved by the Bell (Kelly Kapowski had the best off-the-shoulder styles!)
Finding an oversize sweater that looks good on you is pretty easy because they are such an easy fit; it really just comes down to what colors and fabrics you prefer. I love a cashmere or wool blend option that works with a favorite pair of skinnies and boots. Or you can go bold and wear it with a flowing skirt for the quintessential 90s looks. You can always find something that’s in your budget, from a luxury label at Neiman Marcus to a piece from the new 3.1 Phillip Lim collection for Target!
