Reps from the CBP said that the shipments were manufactured in China and came through Newark early last week, heading to New York, South Carolina, and Georgia. The shipments were falsely cataloged as stuffed bears, acrylic rugs, furniture and paper boxes and upon further inspection, were quickly identified as possible violations for intellectual property laws. Last year, the CBP and Immigration and Customs Enforcement seized $227.7 million worth of counterfeit items nationwide, according to agency statistics.

Most of the luxury goods companies involved declined to comment to WWD, but senior vice president of Coach, Todd Kahn, seemed especially appreciative of the efforts of the CBP, stating, "We are grateful for the work that Customs and Border Protection is doing to protect our borders as well as stopping illegal products from entering. We have a long history of working with the CBP and will continue to provide our help and support.”
