One of our favorite trends for Fall 2023 isn’t exactly new, but this season’s suiting was definitely a standout. Impeccably tailored suits graced the runways in a plethora of fabrics from soft knits, tweeds and wool blends to leather, velvet and satin. Designers showed us a wide variety of silhouettes including pant suits, skirt suits, and 3-piece suits with vests or matching overcoats. The suiting options for fall 2023 are endless, and that makes them an ideal trend for women over 50. You can choose a look that totally “suits” you!
Tailored Suits for Women Over 50
One thing all of these suits have in common is perfect tailoring, and when a suit fits you properly you will look and feel your best. Fabrics are much more comfortable today than the “power suits” you may have worn in the 80s. They often include stretch, so you can go for a fitted or more relaxed style, but not overwhelmingly oversized. It’s always best to allow the fabric to skim over your body for the most flattering fit.

Reasons To Own A Suit This Season
A suit is one and done! It’s easy to style a matching jacket and skirt or pants suit, with little decision making. Wear it with a button front shirt, blouse, tee or camisole, slip on some shoes and you’re ready in an instant.
Suits are versatile. Dress a suit down with loafers or sneakers and a t-shirt, get ready for work with a button front shirt and loafers or booties, or dress one up with a satin or sparkly top and heels for evening. And of course you can break up the suit and wear the jacket, pants or skirt with other separates. The options are endless.
A suit is a good investment. For all the reasons above, purchasing a classic, quality suit is well worth the money. A suit is flattering, easy to style, versatile, and you will be able to wear it for years to come.
Suits On The Fall 2023 Runways
So where do you begin to find a suit? I took a look at the fall 2023 runway collections to show you some ideas, and found similar looks in stores that aren’t quite as expensive as these designer suits. You may also want to compare these to what you already have in your closet. You could possibly already have a suit that you can revive this season.
Choose a softly tailored Chanel-inspired tweed suit, a flattering black hourglass shaped jacket and pencil skirt suit as shown at Versace, or a menswear plaid suit with chic tailoring like this pant suit at Louis Vuitton.
Especially with the holidays approaching, or instead of wearing a dress to a wedding or cocktail party, you may opt for a suit in a luxe fabric. Try a flowy velvet like this relaxed pant suit at Emporio Armani. Or go with a tailored tuxedo jacket and pants a la Tom Ford.
The Classic Tweed Suit
The Fitted Skirt Suit
The Plaid Pants Suit
The Velvet Suit
This velvet suit from Banana Republic has a relaxed shape similar to the Emporio Armani style shown on the fall 2023 runway. The Alyse Relaxed Velvet Blazer for $280 and Wide-Leg Pants for $180 is much more affordable. Choose from dark juniper green, red madder or basic black.
The Tuxedo Jacket and Pants Suit
Tom Ford shows black tuxedos almost every season. A tux is a timeless look and you don’t have to only wear it as evening wear. The Barathea Italian Wool Tuxedo Jacket for $250 and matching Tuxedo Pants for $160 from Banana Republic would be a super chic addition to your wardrobe. In fact, I’m going to order mine now!
Do you like the tailored suit trend for fall 2023? What is your favorite style?
