Summer Staple: Platform Loafers & Oxfords

Who would have ever thought we’d be wearing Oxfords and loafers in the summer? Yet, if you get the light as air, platform versions you can do just that. Pair your platform loafers and Oxfords with cropped black pants or a midi skirt. I personally love the silver Oxfords, but whichever you chose wear them all summer long. Be sure to buy those little peds to protect your feet so you don’t get blisters. You want to appear you are wearing them barefoot.

The Answer To Shorts: The Wrap Skirt

As I’m getting older and my legs are not looking as good as they used to, I am finding skirts to be my summer savior. I still want to show a little leg, but I’m not comfortable wearing shorts as much as I did in my 30’s. I’m guessing I’m not alone. One skirt style I find myself gravitating towards also happens to be a hot trend for summer ’16 – the wrap skirt. Unlike the versions I (we) wore in the 70’s, many of today’s wrap skirts are faux wraps, so you don’t have to worry about it untying and causing embarrassment (I have a particularly vivid playground memory/nightmare).

The Robe: A Summer Wardrobe Essential

As you already know, I’m all about pajama dressing. I love that the lingerie-as-daywear trend has legs and it’s not just for the festival loving 20-somethings either! Wear a mid length silky robe as a jacket or a longer style on cool summer evenings. Look for a satin or silk in solid black or a pattern that speaks to you (like florals or stripes). Be careful to avoid the telltale lace trim or it will be a dead giveaway the robe is really meant to stay indoors.

Wear your robe open with the belt tied in the back as an over coat with a simple and fitted outfit underneath like skinny jeans and a tank, or my favorite…a silk sleeveless jumpsuit. Or you can wear a robe tied as a dress…as long as it hits past the knee. You are NOT to old to rock this effortless look. Trust me, I wear my robe in public all the time…and I’m pretty sure I look chic, not homeless.
