After meeting my shoe twin (a woman who sat next to me to try on the exact same pairs I had picked) and talking to the designer Matt Bernson himself, I walked away with my new shoes. Knowing I got over $500 worth of shoes for $170 makes me giddy.
The Matt Bernson sample sale continues through Sunday. Daily, 11am—7pm. 138 W. Broadway (between Thomas and Duane Sts.) – Lauren Dimet Waters Photos: Second City StyleShopping The Matt Bernson Sample Sale
I love a good sample sale. However, after 6 years of living in NYC I know they can get you in trouble so I try to limit myself. Notice I used the word, try? At any rate, there are a few I really look forward to; Christian Louboutin, Helmut Lang and Matt Bernson I always try to attend bi-annually when they have their sales.
After having two children, my feet grew a half size and my former shoe collection was rendered unwearable. Sadly, I can no longer spend as much on my shoes as I did in my single days, but I have found some brands that suit my needs. Of course Louboutins at sample sale prices fulfill my higher end requirements. I also love Stuart Weitzman shoes as I find them very comfortable and I now own several pairs. One brand I discovered about four years ago has really gained my loyalty and that’s Matt Bernson. I first learned about the brand while visiting his showroom. I was immediately drawn to his shoes because they looked wearable and just funky enough, but not cray-cray. After I tried my first pair of flats, I was hooked. They are uber comfortable and the quality for the price are unparalleled.
Fast forward and I now own about a dozen pairs of Matt Bernson and have turned quite a few of my friends (and readers) on to them. Last summer I purchased 2 pairs of Matt Bernson Delphine sandals in both black and natural from Shopbop. The black ones should be buried, but I just can’t bare to part with them. I have literally worn them into the ground. With the slightest of wedge and butter soft leather, they are so comfortable (straight out of the box) and compliment everything from dresses to jeans. I wore them everywhere and they are now are beyond repair.
So I was counting the days and my cash (they only take green) until the VIP session of the sample sale began and prayed they would have my beloved Delphine sandals in black…so I could buy 2 pairs! I was one of the first through the door and became immediately distracted by a very cute baby, who turned out to be Matt’s son. Then I did a quick scan and was off. Sadly, there were no black Delphine sandals, but they had more of the natural color I incidentally wore into the store and a brown-toned beaded pair which I snapped up in my size. OK, now that I had those, what else might I like?
Well I could use a pair of flat gladiator sandals, couldn’t I? Once I tried on the black KM Gladiator and discovered how comfortable they were I just had to have them. Originally $165 for $50, how could I resist? Then I noticed a very Chanel looking pair of beige leather with a black patent cap-toe ballet flats and thought, I need those too right? Hell yeah! Those were $60 too.
So envious! I love these shoes and wish I could be there!
You are so lucky to have a very nice pair of Matt Bernson sandals. Is that a nude color? I love sandals and I love getting a good bargain from sales. But I have not been into sample sale too. Maybe I should check out the recent mall sale to get a new item for me.
