It’s the 25th year for the SAGs and the Screen Actors Guild is celebrating its most diverse nominations to date. Unfortunately, the amazing, diverse breakthroughs that came through in the nominees did not follow through in the fashion department. I was left fairly underwhelmed. Let’s check out the SAG Awards 2019 best and worst red carpet fashion from the evening.

The Bold Standouts

Let’s start the list off with an interesting fashion choice that won me over for its bold color, scalloped texture, and modern Hollywood feel. Did I mention Jane Fonda is 81 years old?

Catherine Zeta-Jones looks stunning in whatever she wears. That being said, the color seems to be a bit faded. Though I love that she wore blue when everyone was going for red and yellow and pale pink. But I dislike her shoes intensely.

Elisabeth Moss, known for taking risks on the red carpet with short and midi dresses, has never looked better in this lavish, textured ball gown by Monique Lhuillier. Lhuillier, by the way, was worn by tons of celebs on the Globes red carpet and is certainly having a 2019 awards season moment.

I’m not crazy about the feathered bottom on Rachel Weisz‘s gown, but I love the structure and silhouette of this dress. Believe me, there wasn’t a lot to choose from.

These Looks Are Just OK

I’m actually missing Lady Gaga‘s showstopping looks and wondering if she is going to turn it up for the Oscars. She needs to wear more color to highlight a pale face and that platinum hair.

The Absolute Worst

I have to agree with everyone that says this gown worn by Alison Brie would be nothing without the “wings” but what in the heck is going on back there? All those crystals are tacky.

Origami much? We can’t argue that Angela Bassett never ages, but we can say that this is not a good color on her. Nice try. Also, it’s not the best look for a bigger breasted woman.

Perhaps I would have liked this dress if Awkwafina didn’t stand in this pose. The embellished cape is something but it takes the right kind of stance and body structure to wear it. Just not feeling it.

Being the girlfriend of Rami Malek has its perks and Lucy Boynton is certainly having a moment, but this isn’t it. The gown is too goth for me and ugly, too.

There is too much going on here Fiona Xie. This is the SAG Awards and not a circus!

Some of these gowns are gorgeous and some are so “trying to be different” that I feel sorry for the person who fell for them.
Right? Could not agree more! Trying too hard kept coming to mind.
Emily and Danai, love their looks. I don’t care for the leg exposed or the deep deep V that I worry I may see a fashion malfunction!
