A horribly hot and rainy day in Chicago last weekend (along with my desire to always be prepared for a fashion emergency) prompted me to put together this outfit. This rainy day outfit is an everyday look for a casual event like a cookout, sporting event or for running errands. You can still look chic, and most importantly you will feel comfortable and stay dry on a hot rainy day in the summer.
What to Wear On A Hot Rainy Summer Day
Here’s what to wear on a hot and steamy rainy summer day, styled both high and low. You can go with all high-end pieces or low-priced counterparts. It’s your choice! Or you can take some of the high-end pieces and mix them with the low-priced items for what is known as high low styling.
Rainy Day Outfits For Hot Summer Days
There are 2 big problems with styling rainy day outfits in the summer.

- It’s wet.
- It’s hot.
So you need to wear something that is lightweight, will dry quickly and will not get all wrinkled when the sun finally does shine. That’s where athletic pieces made of sports fabrics come to the rescue! I found items that have “performance” and “moisture wicking” properties that will keep their shape when it rains (or when you sweat) and they will dry quickly. You will feel much more comfortable in these fabrics and not like a soggy mess. And for women over 50, your legs and arms can be covered up and you will look appropriate wherever you go. (As much as you wish you could go out in a bathing suit on hot rainy days, you know that won’t cut it!)
This rainy day athleisure outfit will also be a welcome addition to your wardrobe. It is ideal for summer travel (whether it rains or shines) and to wear for camping or glamping (after all, you will look stylish). The top and pants can be worn again for jogging, hiking or to the gym for workouts, too.
