Celebrity Style: 5 Stars Who Look Pretty In Pink

Pink is the new black, right? Well it seems the celebrities think so this season as they show up everywhere looking pretty in pink. But pink is a color that never went out of style.

Pretty In Pink Fashion Moments

We’ve had plenty of iconic pink moments in fashion history.  There was Marilyn Monroe wearing pink singing “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend” in the movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Cher Woods in Legally Blonde, and who could forget Frenchie’s hair in Grease when she sang Beauty School Dropout. Then there are the more recent pink moments like Julia Roberts’ fabulous hot pink Valentino jumpsuit at the 2014 SAG Awards, Lady Gaga at the Met Gala and Cardi B at the Grammys in 2019. And of course, there’s Gwyneth Paltrow’s pink Ralph Lauren gown for the 71st Academy Awards in March 1999. The bubblegum taffeta number was worn the year that she won her Academy Award and yet, the dress – not the award – was the talk of the night.

These days, celebs wearing pink doesn’t always get everyone talking. It seems we’ve become used to it over the years. But that doesn’t mean it’s any less exciting. Let’s take a look at the celebs who have made pretty in pink fashionable again this season.

Rebecca Furguson in Powder Pink Chanel

Actress Rebecca Ferguson wore a powder pink silk tulle Chanel dress from the Spring 2020 Haute Couture collection to the Paris premiere of her movie Dune, which she stars in with Zendaya and Timothee Chalamat. She paired it with a white sequin belt. While I’m not sure this is a particularly Parisian look, I like that she is experimenting with her style by wearing such a frilly, feminine dress with just a hint of color.

There’s also something edgy about this dress, in a playful pink that attempts to romanticize and desharpen the look, but you can just imagine it with some ankle boots or a cropped leather jacket.

It’s not my kind of dress but I like that she’s changing up pink fashion in some way and doing it in Chanel.

Carey Mulligan in Neon Pink Valentino

When does Carey Mulligan ever do wrong? She’s a favorite of mine in the fashion department, always looking like a pixie who does style in a big way. From embellishments to just the right draping, Carey often looks like she stepped out of a Hollywood magazine from the 1940s.

So it was a bit of a surprise to see her in this bold neon pink Valentino number at the Met Gala. Not because it was Valentino, but because the look was dubbed “Revenge Barbie.” I love that the designer, Pierpaolo Piccioli, has a sense of humor about the look. But to me, it’s because the only thing “Barbie” about it is the color. It’s really an extravagant look and of course, Carey Mulligan, who has everything perfectly tailored and fitted – it’s obvious – makes it look so much better.

Nevertheless, Vogue writer Janelle Okwodo says the look captures “the doll’s girly, exuberant aesthetic. Still, the full skirt, overlay cape command elegance and sophistication and Vogue call attention to the five different micro prints, and a combination of taffeta, faille, and seven additional fabrics for a rousing collection of textures. That’s haute couture at its finest.

The dress took 430 hours to make. No Barbie here.

Gal Gadot in Pink Saint Laurent

I never saw Gal Gadot as much of a style icon, but after looking iconic in her Wonder Woman getup, this girl has continued to represent. It doesn’t hurt that she was a former model in Israel so she knows how to wear clothes.

In her case, Gal tends to wear pink as more of a statement of female empowerment than one of fashion. But why can’t it be both? She recently wore this number while being honored at Elle’s Women in Hollywood Celebration event. The dress is more of a deep fuschia than it is pink, but I think the message reads loud and clear. Gal is a strong, proud, stylish woman and she has cemented her place in Hollywood.

Gal Gadot wasn’t the only one wearing a type of pink look. Halle Berry, as one of the women honored at the Elle event, wore a pink and black Dundas X Revolve maxi dress with a paisley print that sort of gave her a bohemian look but still very much reminds me of Halle Berry’s versatile style.

As I write this, I’m looking at the real dress on the Revolve homepage. It actually says the Zeppelin maxi dress is a combination of black and purple. Does it not look pink to you in the photo? I’d like to hear your thoughts and if you’d wear something like this despite the loud (and striking) pattern.

Gemma Chan in Rose Organza Magda Butrym

If there’s one thing I’ve come to know about Gemma Chan it’s that she’s always working to change up her style. Nowhere was this more evident than the various premieres she’s recently attended as a star in the movie Eternals with Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie.

This time, she surprised me because I was expecting more of her edgy looks or maybe more of a gown. Something like her ombre pink knitted squiggle dress or the black separates by Miss Sohee. Instead, she went for ultra-feminine and romantic with this 3D organza rose dress in light pink by Magda Butrym. The description for the mini dress says it’s strappy ties on the halter neck seem to recall the 90s but it’s the 3D rose on the front that really brings it to life.

Light pink is not really my favorite thing. I much prefer a bold neon or rose hue. But had the dress been any other color, it really would have taken away from the effect.
