The new Plum Market opened a few weeks ago in Old Town and I was finally able to visit the store this week. Now I can’t stop talking about it and can’t wait to go back. Just north of Division on Wells Street, the store has an Intelligensia Cafe and Swirlberry on the street side as well as WineBar. I had the opportunity to get a tour from Jonathan Self, who manages the Concierge service at Plum Market. He can tell you a lot about food and nutrition and everything in the store.
Plum Market is like a farmer’s market loaded with natural, organic, local and specialty groceries. And there is regular stuff in there too – so if you want a Diet Coke with your organic salad you can get it.
First of all, the presentation of everything from vegetables, to chocolates (yes, you will find a lot of sweets) to hot foods is beautiful. Additionally, the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. I could spend all day at Plum Market just looking and learning about different brands, many of which are local. They even have labels displaying how many miles the product traveled to get there. Plum Market started in Michigan, with stores in Ann Arbor, Bloomfield and West Bloomfield. Now we are lucky to have one in Chicago!
