Ode to Emma: A Fashion Icon in the Making.

Last night marked the end of a painfully long wait for Harry Potter nerds (myself included) with the midnight release of the sixth installment to the Harry Potter film series, 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince'. And to celebrate this truly magical day, it seemed only appropriate to pay tribute to one of the film's stars, Emma Watson, who is rapidly evolving from frizzy-haired child actor to globally glam icon. At the scant age of nineteen, Watson is already creating a name for herself beyond the Potter realm, one that embodies grace, class, and tasteful yet fashion forward choices in her wardrobe. Adored by the Keiser himself Karl Lagerfield, Watson has gotten gold style stars from critics on both sides of the pond including the iron clad fists at Vogue. Watson claims her appreciation for fine works of art assists her in forming a standout look. Refusing to have her own professional stylist, Watson says she picks her own clothes for events and premieres, often with the help of a stylist "friend".

Beyond her closet, Watson seems to have an affinity for dealing with fame delicately. The young actress is careful in her personal life so as not to allow herself to be splashed across tabloids, a move so many other famous faces her age have yet to learn. And as far as the inevitable ego that comes along with having a coveted style, Watson scoffed at alleged rumors that she was creating her own apparel line and fragrance. “I’m really not interested in doing it for my own ego," Watson said of the clothing line rumors. "I’m not a designer. If someone asked me to do something that was beneficial to a cause, then maybe I’d consider it, but not just [to be able to say] ‘Look at me! I’ve got my own line!' [It’s] gotten so ridiculous.[And] the idea of making my own perfume makes me want to vomit.

If she ever chooses to change her mind, chances are many wouldn't mind the opportunity to channel Watson's blooming, elegant style which ranges from the classic looks of Chanel and Louis Vuitton to the edgier modernism of Rodarte and Proenza Schouler. But it was Burberry, the iconic British label of Watson's homeland, that picked the young star as the feature for the fall 2009 ad campaign. Watson's dainty English Rose-like features were vamped up for the photo shoot that showcased her as the only female model among several males. The resulting effect is Watson standing out with a sultry Bond-girl aesthetic, one that she has never tried before yet fits her to a tee.

With the end of Potter series now in sight, few would argue that Emma Watson will continue to grow in her post-Hermione state. With a growing fashion following and a major ad campaign already under her belt, the actress has, perhaps more than any of her co-stars, created a persona for herself outside of the film's character that will undoubtedly lead her to new and exciting endeavors for the future. Cheers to you Emma, you're doing a jolly good job!
