How To Get This Nina Dobrev Runway Look for Less

Nina Dobrev wore a very chic Gabriela Hearst button front midi dress and belt for the Today Show in NYC last week. She looked fabulous in this spring 2020 runway white dress with billowing sleeves and pocket details. The actress is only 31 and can wear just about anything, but we love this sophisticated choice on her and for all women over 40. Her tall suede boots are a perfect way to make the transition from winter to spring and the gorgeous agate buckle belt pulls everything together. We want to steal this look, but don’t have a spare $1990 for a Gabriela Hearst dress, $550 for a belt and $688 for a pair of By Far suede boots. But where there’s a will, there a way and I found a few options. Here’s how to get this Nina Dobrev runway look for less.

The White Button Front Midi Dress

This Vince Belted Shirt Dress is one way to get this look for less. It has similar styling to Nina’s Gabriela Hearst dress with its button front, full skirt and deep side pockets. Only you can get it for a lot less at $395. (Did you notice the simliar boots?)

If you like the puff sleeves, you may prefer this C/MEO Collective Early On Belted Midi Dress for $235.  It comes with a belt, but you can switch it out to get the Gabriella Hearst look. Stay tuned, I’ll get to the belt!

If you want to save even more cash, this H&M Cream Shirt Dress is only $69.99. It has a few utilitarian details with its snaps and tabs that are similar to Nina’s dress. You can change out the belt on this dress too.

 

Nina Dobrev Runway Look for Less Brown Leather Belt

Here is my idea on how to get The Gabriela Hearst belt look for less. Go to Etsy where you can find a variety of agate belt buckles like this Vintage Belt Buckle Agate Gemstone Gold Plated Belt Buckle for $60. Then you can build your own belt!

Then locate a 1-1/2″ wide strap like this Brooklyn Buckles brown full grain leather belt for $19.80. You can order it to fit your waist size. Together with the buckle you can get the look of the Gabriela Hearst belt for only $79.80. That’s quite a savings over $550 for a designer belt!

Or you can make things simple and get this Halogen® Dual Circle Leather Belt for only $49. This belt will work perfectly with any of our shirt dress options. Just swap out the belt that comes with each dress.

The Tall Brown Suede Boots

Nina’s tall suede boots from By Far are gorgeous, and you can get them for $668. But we want to spend a lot less. These Chinese Laundry Krafty Knee High Boots are only $117.47. This basic style will work for fall as well.

This pair has a slightly slimmer heel and pointier toe for another option. These Vince Camuto Charmina Knee High Boots are on sale for $137.37!

The Hoop Earrings

A pair of large gold hoop earrings is a clean way to add some bling to this look. You don’t have to get real gold! These Madewell Oversized Hoop Earrings give you the look for $24.

The Shades

Top off the look with a pair of dark shades. Nina has her sunglasses tucked into her collar, and you can wear them just like her! Only you won’t be afraid of losing this gold frame pair because they are from H&M for only $9.99.

Nina Dobrev Runway Look for Less Styling Tips

1. Start with a shirt dress.

A white or cream shirt dress is extremely versatile and will become your go-to piece for spring. A shirt dress can be dressed up for a dinner party, is appropriate for business and can also be quite casual.

2. Change up the belt.

By simply changing the belt you can give one dress a variety of looks. Wear it with the self belt or tie, a brown leather one like Nina, or try a chain belt or colorful print tie scarf or sash. Wear a heavier belt or darker colors for early spring and fall and lighten it up for summer.

3. Change up your shoes.

Take it from Nina’s look and wear tall suede boots to make the transition from winter to spring. Suede and leather were shown a lot on the spring runways, but they may look too heavy in the middle of July!  You can wear sandals or sneakers with the same white shirt dress for summer.

4. Keep your jewelry simple.

The white shirt dress is clean but does have a lot of details with its buttons, placket, seams and belt. Nina’s simple gold hoops make a statement but don’t compete with the dress.

5. Go free and easy with pockets.

Did you notice Nina is not carrying a handbag? I realized she doesn’t have to since her dress has pockets! Look for dresses with oversize pockets as an option to carry your phone and lipstick.
