2020 has been a complicated year, to say the least. And while we confess to wearing our sweatpants, leggings, and other athleisure gear way more than usual, we don’t necessarily want this trend to continue into the new year. On the contrary, we think it’s time to amp the fabulousness and style even if no one sees your looks but you and your family. So we put together some of the best New Year’s fashion resolutions for 2021.
New Year’s Fashion Resolutions 2021
We’re taking back style in 2021! While of course, that doesn’t mean sacrificing comfort (we’ve all gotten way too used to that now), but there are ways to glam things up or change up your look even if you are working from home or not going anywhere that requires anything but sweats or leggings.
Put On Your Sunglasses
A great pair of sunglasses doesn’t need to be expensive and they can elevate an outfit – even if you’re wearing a mask. You don’t need to spend a ton on them either – these Luenx aviator sunglasses from Amazon are a fun bargain buy and they look fabulous on everyone.
Always Wear Earrings
We firmly believe you are naked without your jewelry and earrings are probably some of the most visible items you can wear right now. We’re fans of these Karine Sultan “Athena” earrings in the metal of your choosing (or collect them all since they are only $38) which will stand out well next to a mask or on video chat.
Wear Real Shirts
No, hoodies or sweatshirts don’t count. Sometimes putting on a shirt with actual buttons and coordinating accessories helps your mood. Something like this floral print top from Old Navy is cheap and cheerful and definitely will elevate your mood – and it will still look cute with leggings or yoga pants.
And Shoes That Aren’t Sneakers
Cute flats, loafers, mules, smoking slippers, and other shoes are just as comfortable and a bit more refined. Speaking of mules, we’re big fans of these Madewell mules that will add some visual interest and texture to any ensemble.
Lipstick, Blush And Brows
These might be the three vital elements to looking put together. Filling in your brows, adding a bit of blush or bronzer, and some lipstick or gloss can go a long way towards feeling like a person. Plus it looks way better on Zoom or Facetime!
The Anastasia brow powder duos are basically foolproof if you want to add a little oomph to your brows, and while all the Nars blushes are pretty awesome, Exhibit A might be the one that works for every complexion depending on how you layer it on. Want a subtle “your lips but better” lipstick? One of the Make Up For Ever Artist Nude Creme liquid lipsticks should work – we think that Color #4 in Tempt is a neutral that looks great on everyone.
Stop Saving Things For Special Occasions
Okay, while wearing an evening dress on a Tuesday morning Zoom call might be a bit much, we don’t think you should totally give up on getting glammed up. Something like this ruffled “party tee” from White House Black Market is an ideal solution, especially if you add some fun jewelry or a great lipstick shade.
Reboot Your Wardrobe
There’s a reason that everyone recommends that you clean out your closet in the new year. It’s the perfect time to get rid of things you never wear (or should never wear again) and create a new organizational system. One thing that we think makes a major difference is having matching hangers like these velvet ones from Home Wishes via Amazon – they will streamline your closet and help protect your favorite pieces.
Get A Steamer
Do you hate ironing? Of course you do and so do we. An inexpensive travel size steamer is an easy way to freshen up your looks and it is way simpler than pulling out the iron and ironing board. Plus you can get a travel size steamer on Amazon for under $25, like this one from Hilife.
