I was always one to wear the highest of heels and didn’t consider comfort or practicality over fashion. That is, until I discovered I can make a fashion statement and still be comfortable at the same time! Besides being able to walk, if I need to I can actually run in sneakers. But can women over 40 wear sneakers and still look sophisticated? Of course we can, especially when you know how to style them. Here are some of the season’s best new sneaker trends and how to style them when you’re over 40.
The Best New Sneaker Trends 2020
Classic Sneakers
A good place to dip you toe into the sneakers trend (pun intended) is with a pair of classic sneakers. If you are over 40 you probably recall these styles from the 70s and 80s and many were borrowed from the boys. Well they have become classics, in fact they are vintage! So if you invest in a pair of Adidas, Nike or Tretorn they will always be in style and you can wear them for years to come!

The best way to wear classic sneakers is with anything! Wear them with everything from jeans and t-shirts to daytime dresses. In fact they are most stylish when worn with more conservative pieces. It’s the contrast of styles that makes classic sneakers look unexpected and cool! Pair them with a businesslike pant suit, a sweater dress or a pleated midi skirt! Plus you know you will be comfortable all day wearing them.

New Sneaker Trends
The trendiest sneaker styles for fall 2020 include retro-redos from the 80s and 90s, color-blocking, platform soles and futuristic looks. Besides wearing these to the gym with athletic wear, they add a sporty and modern edge to day wear. They pop when worn with all black pants and a top or any other solid color monochrome ensemble. They look city-chic when worn with leather jackets, trench coats or faux leather pants. Turn basic legging and a cardigan into atheisurewear with a pair of these modern new trendy sneakers. You can find them in neutral shades, bold colors and metallics.

You can find sneaker boots at all price points, too, from designer to affordable. They are available in many colors but I recommend black. An easy way to style these sneaker boots is to simply swap them with your basic black booties. Another chic way is with black leggings and oversized sweaters, bombers or jean jackets. Definitely some cute sneakers. Wow! $1300 for a pair? I would probably stick to the $100 and under range but I bet they’re luxurious.
