Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall '12. Lela Rose's Architectural Finesse.

Summary: For fall, Lela Rose explores 1920s refinement, in subdued shapes that exhibit an exemplary attention to detail. A simple sleeveless dress is hit with a wave of multi-colored patterning; asymmetrical seam lines move a dress from all corners into a single spot on the hip. Skirt lengths drop to the calf and sway freely, socks are worn with ankle-strapped platforms and the color palette moves sensually amongst dusty shades of grey, blue, and burgundy for a refined look that is visually arresting.
At 40 looks, this is a large collection, with points of inspiration that seem to read like a story as you move through. The strength of the Lela Rose woman is emphasized as she begins the collection in darker hues and more constricting shapes, advancing forward into pops of vibrant color and increasingly more dynamic patterns. Oranges, reds and florals are infused with a satin sheen and exotic geometrics. Evening wear is seductive and glamorous; fabrics become sheer and incorporate exquisite hand beading.
There is a great deal of refined detail in this collection — Lela Rose merges her various techniques with finesse. The designer’s architectural artistry is to be commended: her manipulations of fabric, lines and form are often subtle, but once discovered, have a dynamic impact on the ingenuity of her construction. Picking one of the more glamorous decades of our history, she explored its emotions and attitudes from top to bottom: resulting in a collection of looks that is on point for Fall in a way that is both deeply timeless and refreshingly of the moment.
