Love It or Leave It? Nine West's New Line of Sneakers.

The footwear company we’ve long depended on for an office pump that wasn’t unsightly or a flirty club heel that can last longer than an hour has set their sights lower—to flat-footed shoes that is.  But its not flats that Nine West is causing a stir about, its sneakers! Nine West’s parent company, The Jones Group Inc. has finalized a licensing agreement through 2014 with Philip Simon Brands Group Inc. for a line of fashion sneakers under the Nine West brand. The collection, called Nine West Original Sneakers, will include about 30 styles under the name Nine West Original Sneakers is slated to drop for slated for spring ’12
“As Nine West starts to become a more exciting and energetic brand with new extensions and personalities, the fashion athletic category is a key component,” said Richard Dickson, president and CEO of branded businesses for Jones Group. “It’s a long-term relationship, and we think [PSBG] is a terrific partner.” Ranging in price from $49 to $129, Nine West Original Sneakers will reprtedly boast lots of bold colors, as well as unique materials and shapes, according to Ariel Weindling, CEO of PSBG.

And though this is not Nine West’s first venture in sneakers, (they co-branded a line of sneakers with New Balance in 2009), this will be the fist line to be exclusively branded by Nine West. So…..how do we think they’re doing? While the pink and purple suede wedge booties may be a little too Candies for my taste, the gold python print above does conjure up a potential Alex Wang/Opening Ceremony aesthetic. What do you think dear readers: is this a breath of fresh air for an old faithful, or should they really just stick to what they know?
