The Summer Matching Set You’ll Wear More Ways Than You Think

One of my favorite summer looks is a matching set, specifically a matching top and pants. Right now, I’m especially loving a classic linen button-front shirt paired with matching wide-leg pants. It looks effortlessly chic and pulled together, as well as being easy and comfortable to wear.

Lauren recently found this linen set, and you can see how she styled it in this reel. When she told me she was buying it, I laughed because I had been searching for something very similar myself! Great minds really do think alike. This light neutral color (called Undyed) is perfect for warm summer days and evenings, but you can go with any other color. I also have my eye on the black and chocolate brown which can be worn into the fall. But let’s just start with one set.

Reasons To Love A Matching Set

What I love most about a matching set like this is its versatility. It can be worn casually for everyday errands, as a beach cover-up on vacation, or styled for the office, cocktails or dinner with the right accessories.

Another reason I love matching sets? They give you the sleek, all-in-one look of a jumpsuit without any of the fit issues, or the annoyance of having to practically undress every time you need to use the restroom.

For summer travel, a set like this can easily become your go-to outfit. Since the pieces work together and separately, you can create multiple looks while packing less.

Here are some of my favorite ways to style a linen matching set. It’s amazing how different it can look simply by changing the accessories.

Casual Weekend Look

Pair the set with:

A white tank: Caslon® Scoop Neck Rib Cotton Tank, $24
Slide sandals: Marc Fisher LTD Daylin Platform Sandal, now $99
A sun hat: San Diego Hat Mabel Ribbon Trim Wide Brim Sun Hat, $51
A woven bag: The Sak Tess Sling Crochet Bag, $119

Office-Ready Outfit

Add:

A blazer: Open Edit The Icon Hourglass Blazer, $99.50
Closed-toe shoes: Marc Fisher LTD Jaynie Almond Toe Loafer Mule, $150
A structured tote: Kate Spade New York Do It All Fine Grain Leather Tote, $298

Dinner or Cocktail Look

Dress it up with:

Gold heeled sandals: Donna Karan New York Women’s Tinley Leather Peep Toe Mules, $119&
A metallic clutch or evening bag: Sam Edelman Poppy Oversized Leather Clutch, $195
Shiny statement earrings: I.N.C. International Concepts Sculptural Oval Statement Earrings, now $29.62

And don’t forget, you can wear each piece separately, too.

Ways to Style the Linen Shirt

With white jeans for a crisp summer outfit: Gap High Rise Stride Wide-Leg Ankle Jeans, $89.95
Over a print skirt for a feminine look: Lascana Women’s Side Slit Maxi Skirt, $57.95
Open over a swimsuit as a chic beach cover-up: Camilla Meet Me in Mallorca Wide-Strap Scoop One-Piece Swimsuit, now $272.30

Ways to Style the Linen Pants

With a chic black T-shirt: Aritzia InterLock Cotton Script Top, $45
Paired with a printed blouse: Desigual Floral Print Woven Shirt, $119
With a fitted tank: Lands’ End Pointelle Rib UNeck Tank, $39.95

The possibilities are almost endless. With a little creativity, no one will ever realize you’re wearing the same two pieces.
