Are you looking for the perfect fall leather jacket? In a recent NET-A-PORTER mailing featuring their editors’ “Most Wanted” fashion arrivals, one piece immediately caught my eye: the Saint Laurent Oversized Double-Breasted Paneled Leather Jacket. They clearly have great taste, because I agree—it’s gorgeous. The only catch? This dark brown leather jacket is $7,600. Yes, seven-thousand six hundred dollars.

Saint Laurent Leather Jacket Look For Less
As much as I love the look (and how easily it can be worn with dresses, skirts, pants or jeans), I can think of plenty of other ways to spend that amount of money. Still, I have to admit the entire Saint Laurent outfit is so effortlessly chic, I’d definitely want to wear the whole ensemble. Since the pieces are fairly basic, I set out to recreate the look for less—without sacrificing quality. Here’s what I found.

The Brown Saint Laurent Leather Bomber
I had to laugh a little at the description of this Saint Laurent jacket on Net-a-Porter: “It looks like the kind you’d have to scour vintage markets to find.” Wouldn’t it actually be better if you did? That said, I know finding the perfect vintage bomber isn’t always easy. Luckily, there are plenty of chic alternatives online for well under $7,600.

The Orange Turtleneck Sweater
This tangy orange hue is bright, fresh and perfect for fall. A lightweight blend of cashmere, woo, and silk makes the Saint Laurent version a beautiful investment piece—but at $1,750, it’s a serious splurge. I’ve tracked down a few stylish and much more affordable options you’ll want as a layering piece and will keep for seasons to come.

Black Denim Jeans
You really can’t go wrong with a pair of straight-leg, mid-rise black jeans. They’re classic, versatile and a wardrobe essential. Saint Laurent’s version is priced at $1,190 (for jeans!), but you can easily save a thousand dollars with similar look-alikes.

Black Cuban-Heeled Boots
These sleek, elongated pointed-toe Cuban-heeled booties are undeniably chic. At $1,700, though, I’d argue they’re hard to justify—unless now I’m hypnotized by these numbers and think by it may be a good price. Thankfully, there are plenty of equally fabulous black boots out there at a fraction of the price.

The Brown Leather Belt
Finally, a piece that might actually be worth the investment: the Saint Laurent brown leather belt. It polishes off the entire look and works beautifully with the “look for less” pieces. Pair it with your affordable finds, and people might wonder: “Is she wearing head-to-toe Saint Laurent?” If you’d rather save here too, I’ve included some sleek brown belts that will finish off your outfit just as well.
Do you love Saint Laurent? Do you think it is worth the price, or would you wear the look for less?
