Ruffled garments can be polarizing – you likely either love them or hate them. Furthermore, if they are done wrong they are either overly theatrical or overly saccharine, and no one wants to look like they are a little girl or wearing a costume. On the other hand, a flounced dressed or a crisp ruffled blouse can make a dramatic style statement. Here are a few of our favorite examples of this trend for spring 2009.

This Ali Ro silk blouse combines two spring trends with its sheer fabrics and ruffles, and it would be perfect paired with a pencil skirt or high waisted pants. Just add a chunky cuff bracelet or two and a pair of strappy platforms to ground your look, and you’re set for a warm evening. It would also work well under a tailored jacket or suit for day – the ruffled neckline offsets menswear styles perfectly.

An unexpected take on this trend is a classic jacket updated with a ruffled hem, like this lightweight spring trench by Luii. Available in black or traditional khaki, it is subtly flirtatious, not over-the-top girly.
