Second City Style editor Alia and I recently visited the True Religion store on Michigan Avenue in Chicago for a Holiday Shopping Preview and we really liked what we saw! The timing was a bit of a coincidence because I recently reassessed my True Religion Joey jeans since flare jeans are on trend again. I bought these jeans almost 10 years ago, back when Lauren and I first launched Second City Style and we went jeans shopping in the name of “research.” I could not get rid of them because the curved seam on the legs and the pocket placement makes them very flattering!*

Fast forward to today, and you can still get the Joey style, only now they have more stretch, and the sizing is in line with other premium denim. Years ago, I had to go up 2 full sizes for my first pair of True True Religion jeans to fit! I could still hear Lauren telling me, “Don’t look at the size. They run really small!” So besides feeling like I lost some weight, another thing I’m loving about today’s True Religion is they now have a lot of tonal pocket stitching, and many styles are also in black! They still have the contrast stitch jeans where you can see the Buddah’s smile shining boldly (That’s what the “horseshoe” motif on the back pocket is based on) for all the True Religion purists! My recommendation to wear for holiday parties are the Halle black coated super skinny or the Joey in black!
All the sales associates at the store were extremely friendly and more importantly knowledgeable about the fit, the styles and the inventory. They also had a lot of patience as I tried on a huge stack of jeans and styles. There are tons of options from skinny to flare and all shapes in between. True Religion also offers t-shirts, shirts, jackets and scarves for women, oh and for men, too (can’t forget them). So here’s a no-brainer for a fun holiday gift to give: a True Religion gift card!
