Fashion Through The Ages: The Strong Shouldered 80s

The Spring 17 Collections from designers like Isabel Marant, Balenciaga, Rodarte and Kenzo channeled the glitz, glam and spirit of the 80s. These strong shouldered 80s looks were worn proudly on everyone at the time, and most memorably for me, on Linda Evans in her role as Crystal Carrington on the Dynasty TV series which encompassed that decade from 1981 to 1989.

Strong Shouldered 80sThe strong shouldered fashions of the 80s represented the powerful and career focused women of that time, and the bigger the better! Padded shoulders may have made women look a bit more masculine but aside from the boxier looks, these shoulders made your waist look slimmer and more feminine.

Shoulders were accentuated in the 80s and are again today with ruffles, flutter sleeves, deep V necks, one shouldered numbers and shimmering fabrics and glittering embellishments. The trend is back but as usual, you may not be able to borrow something vintage from your mother or pull something you wore in the 80s from your own closet, Keep the over top 80s looks to women under 30.

For women over 30, you can own a piece of the 80s without cringing at the thought of bad memories of fashion during the Dynasty years. Those bad memories were probably more about your hair and makeup anyway, Here are a few pieces to take you down 80s memory lane in a positive way!
