Fall Shoes: Flattening It Out

Flat Fashionable Shoes Fall 2014
We love our high heels, we really do. But sometimes flats are just more practical – and thanks to the newest styles out this fall, there’s no need for a spiked heel or platform. Not only will you be perfectly on trend, but your feet will thank you!
Ankle Straps – A slim strap around the ankle can add a graceful, ballerina-esque touch to classic simple flats (and make them more walkable as well). Round toe ankle strap flats like these dove gray suede numbers from French Connection look great with full skirts as well as slim pants.
D’Orsays – Perhaps the most ladylike option for chic flats nowadays, d’orsay flats might be the perfect alternative to high heels since they still look graceful and show off the line of your leg perfectly. For instance, these Steven by Steve Madden black D’Orsay flats have a flattering curved strap that lends these flats plenty of sex appeal – no need for a stiletto!
Brogues or Oxfords – There’s a menswear appeal to this style of shoes that can easily be made more feminine, depending on what you pair it with and the color and shape of the shoes themselves. Combine an a-line or fit-and-flare dress with a sleek and simple, slim-soled brogue like the Frye Jillians for the ultimate chic juxtaposition.
Smoking Slippers – This silhouette can be ultra-flattering, especially with slim pants and perhaps a tailored button down or a silk blouse. And they typically come in plenty of fun colors and patterns, making them the perfect way to experiment with new shades and styles, like this leopard print option by French Sole.
Loafers – A classic for a reason, wearing traditional loafers will never be out of style. That said, this season is a particularly good time to stock up on loafers of all kinds, since there are plenty of pairs in fun colors with luxe details available now, like these soft blue and gold Cole Haans.
Cut-Outs – Missing your summer sandals? A pair of flats with intricate cut out details like this rose gold pair by Via Spiga can replace them as the weather cools down.
No matter what type of flats you pick, don’t be afraid to skip the added height. Not only can the gamine or petite look be a fun change, your feet, calves and ankles will definitely appreciate it.
