It was good to see celebs back on the red carpet for the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards. While last year was all about spontaneous Instagram fashion shoots, big wins for Netflix, and live streaming winners inside their home, this year’s nominees took on a colorful approach with bold and striking looks from designers like Valentino and Christian Siriano. Here is a look at the best and some of the questionable Emmys 2021 fashion.
The Emmys 2021 Fashion
The best moments included big wins for The Crown and Ted Lasso, the cast of Schitt’s Creek “improvising” with no teleprompter, and remembering standouts like Norm Macdonald and Michael K. Williams. Most of the fashionable celebs got it very, very right this time and while some of the questionable looks worked for us (Emma Corrin’s swim cap), others so didn’t (Anne Murphy’s too-long sleeves.)
There were also numerous amounts of pantsuits this time around; I get the comfort factor, but still wondering where this dressy-casual look came from and why it was suddenly so prominent this year. But for the most part, jewel tones like red and canary yellow, beautifully tailored gowns, and off-the-shoulder trends made the red carpet super fun to watch. Let’s take a look:

The Most Beautiful Gowns
The reds have it! This is stunning, and yet, still looks completely comfortable.
I LOVE her. Always age-appropriate and still as radiant as ever.
Not the most stunning woman of the night (and actually this look is a little bit crazy) but Sarah Paulson can pull it off and it does. (Also, it’s red.)
Catherine Zeta-Jones was not up for an Emmy. Her husband was. But can this woman ever look wrong? She is aging backwards! Also, this look screams Old Hollywood to me from the jewelry to the way she stands in it.
Not many women can pull this off, but I think this is a gorgeous color on this Emmy winner.
This is not my first choice as a standout. Mandy Moore’s got you beat. But I do admire the concept and I think Anya Taylor-Joy wears it well. Do you agree?
This was a little weird, but I still loved it. I thought about putting it into the Questionable category, but it’s Angela Bassett! Come on!
Let me just say something about this. Beanie Feldstein is not a Size 0 and does not pretend to be a Size 0. Ladies take note. Even if you aren’t a Size 0, you can still find an amazing ensemble and look absolutely ravishing in it.
I’m not quite so sure about the hair, but Taraji P. look better than she did at the Met Gala.
The Pants
I don’t even want to say pantsuits, because not all of them wear.
Some might disagree but I loved this belt. Loved the shoes. Nothing against capri pants but would have loved to see this with a tight form-fitting mermaid bottom or a voluminous ball gown.
This was my favorite pantsuit of the night. It could have totally worked as a gown, too, but I’m glad it wasn’t.
Christian Siriano Emmys 202 Fashion
I think designer Christian Siriano totally won the night! Every gown he created for this event stunned on the red carpet.
Just beautiful. The color is exquisite. I love the cape.
The Questionables at the Emmys 2021
Let’s start off with something not quite so bad. Don’t get me wrong, I think Ms.Winslet looks very pretty. But she’s such an A-lister…she totally could have done more. This look is boring to me. So boring.
Is she trying to look like she’s wearing water? Cause it’s not working, and her posture is all wrong.
Not sure what’s going on here, but it looks amiss.
Everyone was talking about Emma Corrin. I actually love the cap on her head. The strange gloves – not so much.
I’m not sure what to think about this gown. The color is gorgeous. The sleeves are way too long. The sleeves are gorgeous. I think Anne Murphy could have totally gone with something more fun. Her co-star Catherine O’Hara certainly did.
No Amy Poehler. Just no. But her makeup looked fab.
Who do you think was the best or worst dressed at the Emmys 2021?

I am so lost in the world of fashion! My first requirement is always: ‘could I sit in it’? My second: ‘Eat in it’?
Yeah. I’m hopeless…
P.S. I really liked Catherin Zeta Jones’ simple gown!
Well you should be able to sit and eat in it. That’s a basic requirement for most mortals. These are celebs who can take bigger risks than the rest of us. That said, Catherine Zeta Jones looked amazing.
Sometimes an outfit takes my breath away. Other times, I wonder, “what were they thinking?”
