Cold Weather Chic: The Best Coats Of Fall/Winter 2016

Whether you are a fan of the snow and all things winter or you can’t wait until it’s spring again, there’s one thing that you can definitely look forward to with the changing of the seasons, and that is the associated wardrobe update. For winter, that means a fabulous coat, and there are so many amazing outerwear options that we can hardly decide which ones we want to add to our wardrobes. So naturally, we’re starting by rounding up some of our favorites for you…

Major Embellishment

Embroidery, beading, fur, and metallics all crop up on the runways and store racks every holiday season, but this year these adornments have made it to our outerwear. Go glitzy with a sequined style or straight up bohemian with embroidery – we like this jacquard coat by Etro or this bomber by Needle & Thread.

Bomber Jackets

Everyone and their stylish mother has been wearing bomber jackets lately, and they’ve even got their own category on Net-a-Porter, so you know this trend is major. For an ultra-affordable yet still ultra chic version of this style, try this H&M silk bomber jacket, and then invest in this 3.1 Phillip Lim poplin-paneled satin-twill bomber if you love it and want to upgrade.

Minimalism

Simple, sleek, with strong silhouettes that are a statement in and of themselves, coats like this stand collar style from Uniqlo or this bold blue cocoon coat by Sandro are perfect for an ultra-modern aesthetic.

Puffer Jackets

These deserve their own special mention this season. Although they’ve always been a popular casual look and are downright necessary if you’re a skier, puffer jackets or puffas have become a fashion thing as well (just check out this Balenciaga swing-style puffa), along with being another fun way to play with volume that’s downright practical once it gets chilly outside.

Metallics

Metallics have been a fashion darling for a while now, so it’s definitely not surprising that our collective love of shiny things has extended to outerwear and other cold weather gear like this pale gold metallic parka by Topshop.

Faux Fur

All things (faux) furry are a mainstay of the winter season, and there’s something undeniably fun yet classic about doing a faux fur in animal print like this leopard print double breasted coat by Alice and Olivia.

Even if you hate snow, ice, and all things winter, you have to admit this season’s crop of coats is pretty remarkable. And hey, if you have to go out in the cold, then why not look amazing while you do it?
