Chicago Events. Banana Republic's Fall Fashion Event with GQ and Lucky!

Last night, Chicago welcomed a reprieve from the recent scorching temps and stepped out for a night on the town amid the the cooler breezes that whisked down Michigan Avenue. I was among the masses, excited to be attending the Banana Republic Fall Fashion event, with special guests from GQ and Lucky magazines. Banana's Mag Mile location at 744 N. Michigan Avenue was already packed when I arrived, with Enclave's resident DJ, DJ Sasha, spinning jams in one corner of the two-floor retail space. Clean lines and chic layers seemed to be the name of the game as I perused the specially styled vignettes around the store. After snagging a flute of champagne I was just in time to maneuver up to the front row for the style presentation (it pays to be 5 feet!)

Style correspondent from GQ magazine, Brett Fahlgren was on hand with style correspondent from Lucky magazine, Lori Bergamotto to give us some tips and tricks for hot to wear this coming season's hottest trends. A carefully styled presentation of Banana Republic's Fall collection featured both menswear and womenswear ensembles, allowing Fahlgren and Bergamotto to highlight specific pieces and illustrate how best to wear each look. Fahlgren discussed a choice office look for men that featured a button down shirt, slouchy cardigan and slacks, ("Don't be afraid to wear lavender!", he quipped), a weekend look with a chunky sweater and boots from Clarke's, and a look he called The Italian Film Star—a quintessential cool guy with a simple black tie and perfectly tailored black trench coat.

Lori Bergamotto was up next, clad herself in a dazzling LBD from the collection, very Breakfast at Tiffany's. She went through the ensembles, noting that layering will, as always be crucial in putting together outfits for fall. Luckily, Banana is boasting some stunning options for coverups, from cropped blazers to tissue-thin leopard prints cardigans. Gray is going to be a big neutral for fall, so many of the outfits were built around dove, charcoal or slate elements with pastels or jeweled tones worked in. Bergamotto noted that Lucky's style philosophy is all about mixing and matching different kinds of pieces to create one cohesive look, and that Banana's fall collection had a ton of versatile items—both apparel and accessories—that could easily be dressed up or down. I couldn't help but start fantasizing my own Banana Republic fall wardrobe as she talked!

The presentation ended with the manger of the Banana Republic store reminding us that Banana is launching a personal styling service in its stores. Through the service, guests can receive personalized styling consultations from the store staff, each of whom has become skillfully trained in providing the best possible insight on the collections. at Appointments for consultations can be made in the store, and now online at bananrepublic.com, where you even have the choice to request a specific stylist! Once the presentation was over, I perused the staggering selection and found I loved pretty much everything-big surprise!

Afterwards, I got a chance to catch up a bit with Lori Bergamotto who is just as nice and bubbly as can be! We discussed our mutual need to become more ready for New York Fashion Week than we currently are (!) and she told me she was hosting several style video segments that Lucky was doing throughout the week. So we'll have to keep an eye out for those while we're there! Thank you again to GQ, Lucky and Banana Republic for hosting such a lovely night!
