Daywear ensembles included tweed dresses with sly back cutouts and flouncy ruffled hems. They are perfect for the woman who has a meeting at the office, then has to run straight to an after-work dinner party. The sleek silhouettes were reminiscent of 1950s classic glamour. Bright, kaleidoscopic prints and airy chiffon will look perfect on any beach in St. Tropez. The simple cuts of the V-neck maxi dresses were just right for those looking to add glamour to their beachwear without looking overdone. Where the duo really shined were their specialty: floor-grazing, chiffon gowns. The inspiration for this collection was not what one would think for fashion but immediately screams underwater glamour. Starting with the inspiration from the photographer Jacques Henri Lartigue, known for his pictures of beautiful models, the designers focused on the set of photos of chic French women walking along the boardwalk. “That’s every chic woman’s quest… is to make it look glamorous,” Mark said. “It starts off tailored in navys and whites, a lot of texture with beautiful lightweight summer tweeds, and then it moves into a evening direction where it looks as if the girls were on yachts. And if they fell overboard, they emerge as beautiful mermaids.” Beautiful, under-the-sea colors… with gorgeous diaphanous fabrics are ethereal as sparkling crystals in intricate patterns add that red-carpet touch every starlet is looking for. “We normally don’t like iridescent fabrics,” said James, “but this time, we found an opalescent fabric with pinks that looks really beautiful.” I even tried to get the scoop of what they’re planning for fall fashions but not even the designers know yet! “We still have to take one more trip to Europe to look at our fall fabrics,” Mark explained. “I wish we knew, but we’re just not there yet… We find something that inspires us and then design into it. We know what we do and that slightly evolves each season. And then we need to find the vehicle that will take it to the next level and design into that.”
