The halter tops. The trains that start at the arms. The David Bowie tribute. Cut-outs galore? The amount of fashionistas that wore Michael Kors? Yup, that was the CFDA Awards this year in a nutshell. The fashion kick-off to summer event even produced a very “Prince-looking” honoree – Beyonce (although I think she was supposed to be going for a Michael Jackson look?)
While the CFDA Awards are always an experimental time (more so than even the Met Gala in my opinion) this year the celebs really seemed to want to take fashion risks – and not for the better. Is the fashion world running out of ideas? Is it because every fashionista/actress/singer/entertainer/It Girl wants to get back her 15 minutes of fame? That remains to be seen.
For now we want to show you the trends of the night (besides cut-outs). Some were great, some were good, some were bad and some were just really ugly. You can decide which category you think each one belongs.

Best of the Night
I don’t know why but I LOVE this dress. I just adore the uniqueness, the print, and of course, it’s by my favorite label Proenza Schouler. Looks a bit like a sack on Riley Keough, but I still appreciate how special it is.
Part lace, part art deco, part lingerie – there’s something I just love about this dress.
Surprisingly demure for Alexa Chung, but a pretty leather dress nonetheless.
Love the dress, HATE THE HAIR!!!
We’re calling Summer 2016 the summer of the slip dress (hey, we called pajama dressing a big one) and this number perfectly exemplifies just that.
The off-shoulder trend is alive and kicking and this unique Givenchy design on model Joan Smalls is a perfect example — at least the top half. Not loving the color or Smalls’ hair but this was still a stand-out number for me.
Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Christian Siriano, Kate Spade, Prabal Gurung
And why is everything black for summer???
Silver
Halter Tops
The big story of the day was that this dress came from Banana Republic. I guess I might be surprised if it was anyone but Jamie Chung, the girl that makes a potato sack from Target look awesome.
Unique Trains
I don’t think anyone but Ciara could pull this off.
I like the idea of the cape/arm train but I wonder how many people had to side step her at the event.
And of course, Queen B looking as silly as I’ve ever seen her!!
