It’s not Labor Day just yet. Hey, it’s not even August! That means it’s the perfect opportunity to wear your best celebrity style summer whites. Celebrity fashionistas appear to have taken charge of this golden tradition. If it’s between Memorial Day and Labor Day and you are financially stable, why not show it off by wearing the resort color that shows people you have money, at least where many aristocratic circles are concerned?
OK, so that’s probably not the reason they’re wearing the bright, clean color, but it certainly makes a statement, at the very least that it’s incredibly hard to keep clean. Yet that’s not the only reason we love these celebs in their white ensembles. It’s also because each has added a touch of embellishment that really gives them a special oomph.

Mandy Moore – Carolina Herrera
Well, it IS Carolina Herrera, but it certainly isn’t the navy blue number that Meghan Markle recently wore to cheer her husband on in a polo match. No, this tiered white creation is very, very different and not everyone can pull it off, but Mandy Moore sure can. It’s not my favorite dress and I certainly wouldn’t recommend it to most, but less is more and she minimalizes and styles it well with the black stilettos and black handbag.
Kate Mara – Miu Miu
Yes, Kate Mara’s dress has the unmistakable retro look and feel of Miu Miu, but what really gets people to take notice are those embellishments on the collar. As if the idea of wearing white is not enough, the subtle elegance of the entire look is heightened with ruffles and rhinestones. Otherwise, it would just be plain white shift, no? This time, though, it pops!
Ruth Negga – Ulla Johnson
Does Ruth Negga look bad in anything? Certainly not in this Ulla Johnson number, with the slightly flared, wide leg white pants and the poofy cap sleeve blouse with the minimal print. Negga looks amazing in this mostly all-white look. But I do wonder how the look might read if the pattern on the blouse wasn’t actually there.
Alice Eve – Jonathan Simkhai
Designer Jonathan Simkhai sure knows how to “oomph up” an otherwise boring white dress with a bit of flounce and some embellishments streaked across the bottom of this frock worn by British actress Alice Eve. Ruffles add femininity but don’t overpower, and fortunately, neither does that skirt. Apparently it’s not the first embellished white dress created by the designer and it certainly won’t be the last.
