Thankfully, high fashion glam made a return on the red carpet last night. We were starving for some star wattage and for the most part the 2009 Emmy’s delivered. As can be expected, some did really well and others failed miserably. Trends we noticed on the red carpet? Red! There was also a lot of silver, some gold and some bronze…so clearly metallics are not going anywhere. Our favorite though? The berries, purples and plums.
The Really Good
Gennifer Goodwin in Yves Saint Laurent. This color is amazing on her the hair and makeup are perfect.
You can breathe Rachel Zoe, Debra Messing looked bananas in Michael Kors.

Who ever thought this funny lady would turn into such a fashion icon? Julia Louis-Dreyfus killed it in this stunning cobalt Vera Wang.
Mila Kunis is stunning in this fabulous Monique Lhuillier gown.
Christin Chenoweth dared to go short, but if you are going to do short on the red carpet, this is the way to do it. A super sparkler by Zuhair Murad a a super wattage smile to boot.
Mariska Hargitay kills it in this silver Carolina Herrera stunner.
Thank God Leighton Meester didn’t choose to go over the top in Louis Vuitton again. We like her much better looking ethereal in Bottega Veneta.
Hayden Panettiere in J. Mendel
The OK
Not bad, but Chloe Sevigny could have used some more color. She looks a little washed out in this Isaac Mizrahi number.
We love that Christina Hendricks has the figure most women can relate too. We just wished she had picked something a little more glam than this L’Wren Scott in which to flaunt her fab curves.
Rose Bryne looks beautiful in this beaded tulle Valentino gown.
Jamie-Lynn Sigler. This gold Donna Karan gown is beautiful, it just seems a little old for her.
Sandra Oh in a gold Marchesa gown and red Jimmy Choos is a vast improvement from some red carpets past.
The Bad
Sorry Amy Poehler, I love you, but there is nothing funny about this dress.
Blake Lively got the color right, but just doesn’t pull off this Versace gown here.
Here is a shorter dress that just doesn’t work on this red carpet. Mary-Louis Parker in Zac Posen.
Oh Kyra Sedgwick, we had such high hopes for you, but this L’Wren Scott dress and matronly updo are just a big fail.
Sorry Christina Applegate. We love you but we are not crushing on your blue Basil Crush gown.
Ok, Heidi Klum, we get it, you are pregnant with your fourth child and will probably walk the Victoria Secret runway in 2 months, but really? A mermaid cut Marchesa when you are about to give birth? Um, no.
January Jones got it a little wrong in this Atelier Versace odd ode to the Empire State Building gown. The dress is actually pale pink but photographs white.
Drew Barrymore looks washed out in this ill-fitted Raven Kaufman dress.
The Totally Dreadful
OK, granted, Jennifer Love Hewitt can not pull off a red carpet to save her life. Case in point.
Kim Kardashian…we can see your nipples and this Ina Soltani gown is just way too long. Really bad.
Sarah Silverman, it’s time for a stylist. This 80’s prom gown makes your hips look MASSIVE. Study Julia Louise Dreyfus or get her stylist’s number….fast!
Thank God Kathy Griffin is hysterical, so we can forget this dress mess.
Victoria Rowell, was it necessary to make a political statement on the red carpet? News flash, he won. Last year!
