Transitional Trend To Wear Right Now: Cardi Coats

Last year the “it” sweater was the open and draped cardigan – it could be asymmetrical but it had a flowy effect. Well that was last year. This fall the open cardigan style is oversized and boxy. Picture grabbing that large bulky sweater your grandpa used to wear and you have the idea. We like to call these cardi coats, but they actually hit about mid thigh. We are not talking about the long sweater coats that were so popular in 2002 so don’t get too excited if you kept yours.

Look for cardigans that are oversized, slouchy, may or may not have buttons (but the idea is to wear it open anyway) and may or may not have a hood. The open-front cardi coat is the perfect layer to throw on over your favorite looks. Those looks might include a long-sleveed tee and jeans with over-the-knee boots or even a long pencil skirt, a tie neck blouse and menswear shoes for the office. Basically think of it as your new jacket or blazer if you will. Since it is oversized be sure whatever you wear on your bottom half is fitted or the look will not flatter your figure in the least. So forget buying a new blazer this season and get this perfect layering piece instead! You don’t have to spend a fortune either.

Check out some of the cardi coats I found below at virtually every price point.
