Beauty Buzz. Emily Blunt Lands YSL Fragrance Campaign

Emily Blunt for YSL's Opium

If you’re like me and you love/hate Emily Blunt because she’s gorgeous, is a perfectly adept actress in both comedy and drama and is married to hottie and all around mensch John Krasinski, then here’s another log to add to the raging jealousy fire. Blunt has been picked as the new face of YSL’s classic  fragrance, Opium.
Unveiled in 1977, Opium was created by perfumer Jean-Louis Sieuzac and presented in a novel flacon by designer Pierre Dinand. The potion contains notes of mandarin orange, bergamot and lily of the valley, has jasmine, carnation and myrrh at its heart, and trails off on a vanilla, patchouli, opopponax and amber base. Its bottle, originally created by legendary bottle designer Pierre Dinandm – who also crafted such classics as Dior’s Eau Sauvage and Calvin Klein’s Eternity and Obsession – has been updated a couple of times, but the scent itself is the exact same essence as of the Seventies.
According to Renaud de Lesquen, president of YSL & Designer Brands, Blunt embodies the ” fiery, almost reckless woman with magnetic seduction, that nobody or nothing can resist”, that the fragrance’s campaign will focus on. “Opium embraces the whole history and values of our house”, de Lesquen said. Blunt has already shot the print campaign, working with photographers Romain Gavras and Patrick Demarchelier. The ads will bow in October. And what does the British bombshell say of her new place in YSL history?  “I am very honored to have been chosen to be the face of Opium. It is really exciting to embody a fragrance which has stood the test of time without its allure ever being diminished”. Ah, a perfect response. Shocking.
