Beauty Beat: Kiehl’s To Open Spa 1851

When my husband took me out for dinner last week to JoJo for our anniversary we both commented on the HUGE Kiehl’s store under construction across the street on Lexington. Of course I had to get the scoop. A giant Kiehl’s in my hood? I was too excited for words. Since 1851 Kiehl’s has been committed to offering its customers the finest products and customer service possible. Now the New York-based purveyor of fine quality skin and hair care products is taking it’s service to a new level.  They are opening their first-ever, full-service spa on the Upper East Side!  The spa will occupy the second floor of a new Kiehl’s Since 1851 retail store set to open mid-July. Spa 1851 will bring the East Village apothecary to the Upper East Side, and will offer a full-range of treatments providing visibly healthy results for skin, body and hair, for women and men.
“Our customers have asked us about opening a spa for years, and in this monumental year, as we celebrate 160 years, it’s fitting that we’re finally able to offer New Yorkers unique skin and body treatments using their favorite Kiehl’s ingredients,” said Chris Salgardo, President, Kiehl’s USA “Actually being able to use our formulas in a full spa environment is the ultimate way to experience Kiehl’s.”
Located on the second floor of the brand-new Kiehl’s free-standing store at the corner of 64th and Lexington, Spa 1851 draws its inspiration, in both design and treatments, from Kiehl’s East Village roots as an old-world apothecary.
THE SPA 1851 EXPERIENCE
Spa guests enter through a private entrance off 64th street and check in with a concierge.  From there, they’re escorted up the stairs to the main spa area, where they’ll discover an intimate space with a waiting lounge, three full treatment rooms (two with showers), and two barber chairs in a separate grooming station.
A wall of windows in the public area (in both the spa and the store below) will offer guests a view of New York’s 64th St., and each treatment room includes Kiehl’s trademarks such as chandeliers inspired by those that have hung in the original Flagship Store for generations, as well as unique artwork such as David LaChapelle’s Rainforest Photo Mural.
Like all Kiehl’s retail stores, Spa 1851 features an interior design that advances Kiehl’s longtime commitment to the environment ¬with the use of natural, sustainable materials and energy-efficient light fixtures, while further enhancing the overall service experience for Kiehl’s patrons.  The intimate space is accented with warm colors and textures, and brick and wood accents, creating a cozy, exclusive, yet democratic atmosphere that includes touches such as:
•    Vintage reclaimed tin ceilings
•    Antique fixtures
•    New York Subway tile accents
•    Oak fixtures with Richlite countertops, made from recycled paper
•    Energy-efficient lighting
•    Eco-friendly robes and linens
•    iPads for guest use in the lounge
•    Limited Edition Havaiana sandals to wear during treatments (and available for purchase)
After finishing a treatment, guests can take a bit of the experience home with them—the Limited Edition Havaiana sandals created especially for Spa 1851 will be available for purchase, and each comes in its own carry bag made of recycled bottles. Then head downstairs to visit Kiehl’s newest retail location on the ground floor, to find their favorite products to take home.  The store features a modern apothecary ambiance, referencing Kiehl’s original location in New York’s East Village.
Sounds like heaven right? We seriously can not wait to check out this new spa! See you there!
