Last summer, rumors surfaced that Karl Lagerfeld didn't renew his Chanel contract and that Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz would replace him. Both fashion houses denied the rumor at the time. This same rumor reared its ugly head this weekend at grazia.com.au, which caused fashion blogger of JakandJilBlog Tommy Ton to tweet even more rumors that news was coming that would "SHAKE the fashion world":

"We at grazia.com.au think we might know what this earth-shattering news might be — with rumours circulating that Karl Lagerfeld’s tenure at Chanel is coming to an end and none other than Alber Elbaz will be announced as his successor. There’s no doubt the talented Lanvin designer is more than capable of filling Big Karl’s CC-logoed shoes."

Though last time Chanel issued definite statement on Lagerfeld's future, this time was not so clear cut. This is Chanel's statement last night sent out last night "clarifying" Lagerfeld's future status:

"Please note that Karl Lagerfeld is the Creative Designer of CHANEL and has a long-term contract with the company. Replacing him is not an issue."

So, did Chanel's statement answer anything? Or just add fuel to the fire?
