How to Style a Holiday Party Outfit High–Low (Designer vs. Affordable)

Earlier this year I became obsessed with embellished blazers, and they’re ideal for the holidays. You can easily dress one up for a formal event with black pants or a maxi skirt, but my favorite way to wear it is with faded jeans. I put together this holiday part outfit that works perfectly for more casual parties — dinner with friends, or festive cocktails.

This look is perfect for women over 50 (a blazer is always flattering), and adding a pop of red, blingy silver boots, and a sequin or embellished bag makes it instantly holiday-ready.

Holiday Party Outfit High–Low

You can style it with high-end designer pieces (as pictured on the left), or get the look for less with more affordable fashion (on the right). Or mix and match—maybe splurge on the handbag or shoes and save on the rest. That’s the magic of “high–low” styling. You get to decide!

The Embellished Blazer

Start with an amazing embellished blazer. The Alexander McQueen version is a work of art, but you can get a similar vibe for much less with this Kobi Halperin blazer (now on sale).

Perfectly Faded High-Rise Flare Jeans

A flattering option is a pair of slightly faded jeans that skim over the knees and create a long line. The R13 pair is perfection, but you can get the look for far less with these Hidden Jeans.

A Pop-of-Red Top

A black top or tank will absolutely work, but I added a pop of color here with a long-sleeve red top. (You can also try a hot pink, green or cobalt blue pop of color top.) This Le Superbe knit sweater fits like a dream, or you can simply wear a Gap long-sleeve tee for a fraction of the cost.

Silver Boots

Everyone needs a pair of silver booties, right? Don’t be afraid, they add just the right amount of bling to any outfit. A mid-high heel works well with flares to elongate your legs while keeping you comfortable. The Shimmering Silver and Black Bag

A shimmering handbag finishes off this holiday outfit (and honestly, any outfit). The McQueen jeweled satchel is a true investment piece, but the Kurt Geiger embellished tote gives you the sparkle for well under one-tenth the price.
